Will be staying @HRH 2/13 - 2/16. Originally, I had booked a AAA rate and purchased my family's park tickets on-line using a FAN discount in November, 2004.

When checking available rates in January, 2005, I became aware of Preferred AP rates available at $139 for pool view rooms (approximately $140 less per day than the AAA rate originally booked). Over our 3 day stay we would realize savings of $420, less the $80 extra/difference for an AP.

When I called Loews' Central Reservation Number, the operator said it "would be no problem" to check in early, get our room keys for FOTL privledges and proceed to the park to upgrade one of our passes to an AP. She indicated that I should, at the end of our day at the park, bring the AP to the reservation desk for verification of my number/receipt. I received the same information from a reservationist at Universal Vacations (who did caution me not to enter the park, but to speak with personnel at their outside information booth, and they would guide me through the upgrade process).

However, when I contacted the concierge at HRH to book child care, she indicated that I MUST produce the AP when I first stop at the hotel. She reiterated that if I don't have the pass at that time, I will be charged "rack rate"!!!!!!

At the risk of seeming paranoid, I'm now debating whether I should, despite the inconvience; go directly to the park, upgrade to the AP, then checkin at HRH to avoid the dreaded "rack rate".

Has any one else experienced this situation? Your help would be appreciated!

I would think you could produce your AP's anytime prior to check-out and get the AP rate. we always make reservations with the resident rate, and I've never been asked to show my ID.

When I recently called to make reservations with the AP I was told you didn't need it to make the reservation but you DEFINITELY needed it at check-in. She was very emphatic about it. The parks are a short distance away, you can walk over and back in 20 minutes. The walk from HRH to USO is 5 minutes. Good luck. :teeth:

I called Royal Pacific yesterday and was transferred a couple of times until I got someone at the RPR front desk. I asked if I needed to have the AP in hand at check-in since I was planning to upgrade a ticket to an AP. She quite emphatically told me that I really couldn't make a reservation using an AP because I wasn't an AP holder. I told her I would be getting the AP when I get to the park. She said, but you are not a holder now and, therefore, cannot make a hotel reservation at an AP rate. We argued about that for a little while. The bottom line was that I would need an AP in hand at check-in.

I've decided to just keep the ticket I have and my AAA hotel discount. It's not a huge difference since we are only staying two nights. However, If I were staying any length of time, I would make the effort.
