hi all! my family and i are going to wdw may 2nd-9th. i have made a bunch of adr's for character dinings. but, i left some days open to just walk around dtd and walk into what ever we feel like. we went last march and that worked well for us.i hate making adr's for every dinner b/c we never know how the day will go with timing and so forth. i got adr's for the obvious...chef mickeys, 1900 park fare, garden grill, & crystal palace. but as for the rest we usually just walk into places like rain forest cafe(my kids favorite), planet hollywood, wolfgans, ect. this will be our 3rd trip, and we have never had a problem getting seated at these places. also, we have never been there in may, do you think i need adr's for EVERY night? will we have a problem getting into places in dtd? do you think adr's a must for only character meals and the really hard to get places?

Hi,

The best way I can answer this is to say that if you have your heart set on eating at a particular restaurant, you should make ADRs.

They are free and you can always cancel them later.

With the growing popularity of the Dining Plan, walk-in opportunities are getting harder to come by, even at the "less busy" times of year.

Of course it's totally up to youif you get an ADR for everyday, but as PP said, if there's someplace you have your heart on eating, then do ADRS (as you have done).

As to being overscheduled, I totally get that! Last trip (free DDP, Sept. 07) I made 12 ADRs from home and we kept 10 of them. That was better than we did the year before. I think we kept 5 of 12:confused3 . Since we don't always know what parks we'll be in at meal time, or even if we'll be at a park, I tend to make alot of my ADRs for non-park restaurants. This works very well for us. Looking back over my last 12, 8 of them were non-park choices.

Even if you don't have an ADR and want to eat somewhere, don't despair. Last year I didn't need to reschedule much, but in 2006 I did. And I was able to get some great choices. Even if you call the day of your meal, you might still luck out. And DTD (IMHO) doesn't book up as much as some of the more popular choices. In Sept. 06, I was able to get RR for dinner on the same day we wanted to eat there. As soon as I knew we weren't going to be able to eat at 50's PTC (weren't going into parks that day) I made the call and got RR. I was also able to get Kona, Narcoossee's, & Hollywood Brown Derby all while we were there as well as releasing 7 ADRs we didn't keep.

Good luck! :yay:

No, you absolutely don't need to make ADRs everyday. But if you REALLY REALLY want certain restaurant you should go ahead a reserve it.

thanx guys! i think i'm going to stick with what i got for now. wdw is just so different everytime, sometimes we eat at 6:00 sometimes at 9:00, you never know if you may grab lunch at the park and your not ready to eat by the time of your ressie! and i have little ones(3 & 6) so, i have to go by how thier moods are too. i actually just called wdw dine and she told me there is a couple of places in dtd that don't take ressie's, so worst case we will at least have somewhere to eat. as long as i have our " must do" adr's (which i do) then i am happy:0) by the way, any suggestions for "must do" restaurant? has to be kid friendly b/c as i mentioned, i have little ones. thank you.
