I want to take advantage of free dining if it is offered this year. I haven't made our reservations yet obviously but the 180 mark is coming up in a month. Do I need to have my room reserved to make my dining adr's? What are you other hopeful wait and see'ers going to do?

Nope - anyone can make ADR's - including folks who aren't planning to stay on property. Folks with a reservation do get the advantage of the 180+10 rule.

If you are making your ADRs at exactly the 180 day mark, you will not need a room reservation to do so. If you wanted to do the 180 + 10, you should be asked for a confirmation number or the name of your resort hotel. I say should, because the CM didn't ask me for my confirmation number when I made my reservations for our December trip and I had used my telephone number in the phone system because I didn't have the confirmation number on me at the time. However, she did ask for the name of the resort where we were staying.

Hi i'm still learning abt how ddp works, but what do you mean by 180+10 rule?
We're going this coming June 17-22 BWV/VWL if i want to use DDP do i have to book it now? Still waiting if they'll offer free dining.....

Thanks

Zoom - 180+10 means that Disney resort guests can call 180 days in advance of their arrival and make up to 10 days of ADRs instead of having to call each day to get an ADR for 180 days from the day you call. You should have a reservation in the system to be able to do this, but they can check with your reservation number or phone number.

Free dining has been middle of Aug to end of Sept the last couple of years and requires booking through CRO at rack rates and buying at least a 1 day ticket. Are you a DVC owner or renting from a DVC owner or have you booked through Disney?
If you are staying on points at the villas you can book DDP without having to buy the park tickets but it will not be free no matter what time of year you go. You must book before you get there and pay when you check in. It is not likely that free dining will be available while you are there in June.

Yes, i'm a new dvc member and i will be using my points. So like you said it will not be free no matter what time of year i go since it only applies to booking through CRO at rack rates. Also what does CRO stands for? Have you tried DDP? Is it really worth it? Will I save money if i use that than pay as i go? Thanks!

CRO is central reservations for Disney - We used the DDP while staying on points last year for 10 nights 11 days. We had never eaten at many of the TS places and really enjoyed being able to do that knowing that no matter what was ordered the bill was paid. It was especially good for us in that we had a total of 5 possible bills for each meal because of the mix of people and families involved. The TS meals themselves paid for the plan ( I saved all the TS receipts)- everything else was above and beyond. It was also a lot of food. I would suggest going to the restaurant board and reading the dining plan thread for other viewpoints. I don't know that I would do it for every trip - in fact did not do it for the 9 nights we were there over Christmas and New Years. We ate a couple of big meals and used our DDE card where it was possible. We did not want to be tied to being at certain places at certain timess ( the biggest drawback to the program for me) We are going in September and will have the free dining as I was able to book it on the bounce back program while there at Christmas. We have most of the same group as we did when we paid full price for it last year so it will again work well not having to ask for separate checks or sort out charges at meals. It really does depend on what you want to do about meals - some people want a TS meal every day some don't, some are happy with one meal and snacking the rest of the time.
I spent so much time going back and forth about it last year I nearly drove my DH crazy - You do need to make advance reservations to be certain you will be able to use all your TS credits and have meals at times you find convenient. Depending on how and where you like to eat you can save a lot or possibly just break even. I know we will look at each trip individually to decide if we will use it. Have fun planning and enjoy your DVC membership to its fullest.
