We almost always take the Magical Express and use the Disney transportation system. We've just booked a quick trip in October at OKW. We've never stayed here. It looks so spread out. Will be end up hiking for miles to get to the pool, restaurant, bus stop, etc?

Is there a better location we should request (note that my requests anywhere usually aren't honored...so I don't bank on that)? We'll just be in a studio...OKW was one of the only ones that still had availability.

Thanks!

NO need for a car unless you want to go to other resorts often or do some grocery shopping or anything else off site. Bus transportation at OKW has always been very good, and no matter where you are in the resort, you will always be near a pool. If you want to go to the main pool, ANY bus will get you there from one of the 5 bus stops, since all buses stop at the Hospitality area last before leaving the resort.

There are five bus stops in OKW, the bus route is as follows: Penninsular Road, South Point, Turtle Pond, Millers Road and Hospitality House. HH is always the last stop so you can jump on any bus to get there. In reverse walk across the bridge to Penninsular stop and catch any bus to your "neighborhood" area. If you truely want closer to HH it is now a booking catagory. We stayed this past Christmas without a car and really never missed it.

I forgot to mention that there are also 3 other pools besides the main one.

I hope this question is close to the one asked when the thread started. How easy is it to get a bus from OKW to AKL for a 8:35 am breakfast at Boma?

Resort to resort travel is not efficient by bus ANY TIME, and early in the morning will be the most difficult. Your best choice is to take a bus to the park that has EMH morning for that day, and then take a bus from there to AKL. Be prepared for a fairly long trip, since it could take awhile for the bus to come at the park. It isn't that resort to resort travel can't be done, it's just that it takes a long time and some "extra" planning. For an 8:35 AM dining ressie at AKL's Boma, I would probably catch a bus around 7-7:15 to the early entry park for that day and then transfer to the AKL bus from that park. You might get there in less than an hour, but it could take longer too. I guess another option is to take a taxi. Bus transportation between resorts anywhere in Disney will always be difficult. Going to the parks is easy, but another resort....not so much. Disney will often tell you to take a bus to DTD and transfer there, but we find those buses to be the slowest of all.

I don't think any bus goes directly between OKW and AKV. You would have to get to DD or a park and transfer to AKV. I would not chance getting there for you ADR with the transfers. If you really don't want to rent a car call a cab.

Bus stops in OKW never seem to be more than a 5 minute walk. As far as going to AKL take the bus to DTD and get another one to AKL. Another option is to take bus to HH house. Take the boat to DTD, about a 15 to 20 minute ride. Transfer to a bus to AKL. The boat route might take a little longer but it is a more pleasant ride.

Maybe it would be "better" to get ME to drop us off at AKL, if they will, then after breakfast got to OKW and try to check in??

If you are just checking in that morning, you might have an issue. ME can be slow and not terribly accurate for arrival time. I would probably take a taxi under those conditions. You don't want to take ME to a different resort than you're staying at, since your luggage would then be in the wrong place.

As far as the boat option to DTD, the ferry doesn't begin running until 11 am so it dosn't work for morning connections.

I learned that the hard way! Never, ever again. We fell for Disney's advice last year and transferred buses at DTD to go to AKL. From our resort, to DTD, and finally AKL it took us a total of 1 hour and 35 minutes!

I would take a cab.....otherwise you have to be on a bus by 7ish:eek:

I am going to OKW next month.....I will not have a car.
I can't wait to go to BWV and OKW next month:yay:

Yep, a cab will be the best $15 you spend on the trip.

(Well, buying a couple of Turtle Crawls at Gurgling Suitcase would be a close second.)
