Do Gameboy Advance games work on DS?

Do I need to get a special adapter or are the games interchangeable? TIA!

The DS has a slot for GBA games. Not the original Game Boy or Game Boy Color, but GBA games work.

We've had a lot of old games work. When my son got his ds last year, his older cousin (who is graduating from college this year) gave him all his old gameboy games from when he was a kid. As far as I'm aware they all work.
