Do EA members have to go to the National Counter if using a coupon?

Hello everyone,

I have read with interest the posts about the disturbing trend of National failing to honor a coupon and making EC members go to the counter to work it out. The same thing happened to me last nov.

Is there anyone who is an EC member, who used a coupon, and did not have to go to the counter because you were overcharged? If National honored the coupon without going to the counter, when did they take the coupon from you? Please advise. Thanks!

When I left the garage I gave the attendant a copy of my reservation with the coupon stapled to it. He took the coupon.
You are only supposed to be able to use the EB coupon with the EB discount code (per the back of the coupon). The internet reservation system is accepting "illegal" coupon/discount codes and National is honoring the rates but that accounts for people having to go to the counter.

So are you saying it's "illegal" to use a DC code with a different company's coupon like EB or BJ's or some other coupon and vise versa?

I'm using my DC contract # with a different company's coupon because all the DC coupons expire before my trip and it's a good coupon ($20).

Maybe I just misunderstood you.

I don't see why this should be a problem.

The National Person in the booth as you leave with the car will collect your coupons and other documents and confirm your rate. The DC contract discount may be combined with any type of discount coupon that you are eligible to use.:D
