Ok expects ... tell me ...

If I have 160 pints and only use 143 for that year, do my 17 unused points simply "roll-over" for the next year?

You can call and bank them for the next year, but only up to one year (I beleive). You can also "Borrow" from the next year if you don't have enough for the current year.

If you dont use or bank them you lose them. I dont know what your use year is, so I cant tell you what your banking windows are.

Make sure to pay attention to your banking dates for your use year! Nobody needs to lose points! The member guide book does a pretty good job of explaining it- there are charts that are pretty clear. You can only bank them for one year so make sure (if you do bank them) that you use the banked points first when you make your reservations next year!

I'm jealous that you have points to bank! We have a June use year, and we've used ALL of the points from 2007 already and only have 18 2008 points left! :confused3

I think I need to tell DP we need more points. AKV is looking good!::wizard:

Thank you everyone for all the good info.

I am not a member - just looking into it. I still haven't decided if I want to do this.

If I join, I will have to save the money for the intital buy-in. I don't want to finance after reading the info on mousesavers.com/dvc page.

I was also figuring to buy from a reseller. I see no reason to buy the same thing - just more expensive - from disney.

Unless someone can offer information why a first time buyer *should* buy from Disney and not a re-seller.

Thanks!
Dennis

The thing with the resale price is that DVC has the "Right of First Refusal" meaning that before any contract is resold, it must be offered back to DVC first. If they need the points for resale themselves, they will buy them at the offered price and the seller will get his asking price, but the buyer will have to continue looking. DVC does not always repurchase, either. There are a couple of DVC Resale specialists, and they can fill you in on the real details. One is a sponsor of the DVC board, I can give you the other ones name via PM as I am not sure about posting it here.

Thank you for the infor Marsha !! All good stuff to know indeed.

This board is awesome !

DVC is the best purchase I ever made, hands down. I read an article on MSN this week talking about "buying happiness." The author's point was that if you paid for things that impacted your emotional/spiritual well-being, you'd feel happier than if you were paying for inconsequential things. I have to agree, because of all of the bills that get paid out of my account every month, the one bill that makes me smile is DVC.

You have three windows of time in which to "bank" your points. The first window allows you to bank 100% of the points you have left (or whatever number you choose to bank), the second window allows your 50% and the final window allows you 25% -- this is of the remaining points in your account. I typically stay in "borrow" mode because I'd rather cut off my arm than lose points.

Good luck with your decision! :wizard:

Great info odd1 - you put your post very well.

I agree. I see buying into DVC like buying a car. I can buy a sensible econo car or a sexy expensive sport car - yes the sports car is expensive, but it will make me happy everytime I get in the drivers seat.

Same for DVC - i would smile too :)
