Do Disney resorts ever over-book?

What I am wondering is if Pop Century is ever over-booked and if so, where would we go? I would refuse all All Stars because my daughters would be sooo disappointed by them. TIA

The closest I've ever heard to Disney overbooking was when some Guests decided on their last day that they wanted to stay longer. Apparently, all that Resort's rooms WERE booked for the upcoming night so they had to move to another property. Personally, I've never been to Disney when there haven't been "rooms available" signs up on World Drive.

My Aunt & Uncle stayed at Wilderness Lodge about 7 years ago and when they checked in they were told the hotel was over booked.
They were upgraded to the best suite in the place. They said it was amazing, two bedrooms, hot tub, 2 patios, overlooking the whole resort.
Fully stocked entertainment center with any disney movie you could possibly want. It was just the 2 of them in this HUGE suite.
So it does happen, but it is like trying winning the lottery.

Can I ask why they would be disappointed at AS vs. Pop. I am trying to decide between POP and maybe AS movies? I would love any input.

Thanks

POP is newer and maybe better bus service.
Less worn rooms at POP

Go to whefre you like the larger than life icons :)

I remember a time a few years back when they overbooked the YC & BC for some kind of convention. It was a pretty big deal on the forums because some people had booked their rooms a year in advance for special occasions (anniversaries, etc.). While a few people were telephoned in advance to ask them to switch resorts, many found out on arrival to check-in. Some were given upgrades to suites or concierge at other deluxe hotels. But some were redirected to moderate hotel rooms or told there were no other alternatives except offsite. It seemed like the squeaky wheel (should I say, screaming wheel?) got the attention at that time.

This is the only time, over several years of reading these boards, that I recall people discovering they had no room with a reservation and Disney did not call them ahead to work it out satisfactorily. At other times, major renovations or partial resort closures resulted in Disney contacting guests ahead of time to re-book. Also, during summertime hurricanes in south FL, the resorts may fill with FL residents who are fleeing inland. At times like this, it's possible for commonplace hotel overbooking to result in actually having more guests reserved than rooms available for them. This is unusual.

:cool1:

A few years ago while checking into the WL we were asked if we would be willing to change to the YC at no extra charge. We declined and stayed at the WL. I assume the WL was overbooked.

I really don't think will be a problem with overbooking.
If there is Disney would probally upgrade you to a mod.
As for myself I prefer the All Star and would be a little disapointed if I were moved to POP because the Bus rides are longer to the parks from POP

Bus ride times according to PassPorter.com

All Star Buses------------Pop buses
MK 20 min---------------MK 25 min
Epcot 10 min------------Epcot 20 min
MGM 10 min--------------MGM 15 min
AK 10 min----------------AK 15 min
DTD 15 min---------------DTD 20 min

The All Star resorts have 1960 rooms each.
Pop has 2,880rooms.
That means more people in the pools, food court and in line waiting for the bus at POP.
When phase 2 of POP is built it will be 2 bus stops at POP and the 2 POPs will have the same # of rooms as the 3 All Stars.

Also All Star is closer to the main road to get to parks and thats why bus rides are shorter from there than from POP.

A WORD ABOUT BUS SHARING:

It is usually just our stop and maybe one more on the way to the parks. On the way back sometimes its all 3 but often Sports and Music share and Movies has it's own bus back.

I guess some people who stay at POP see all 3 All Star names on the return sign of our bus stop when they head to the POP bus stop and think All Stars also has 3 stops on the way to the park.
(Even when we stop at another AS resort to load up it has not taken more than 5 minutes and we are on our way!)

I love the All Star Resorts --they can't be beat. I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic :wizard: at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?
I can hardly wait.
