Do DISForums bring you down?

Consider visiting other forums on the boards (DIS Unplugged, Resorts, Restaurants, etc.). There's plenty of places to "talk Disney" if you don't find what you are looking for here.

It really depends what you are looking for, how you read it and what you expect. When I first started lurking, I would only click on the recent discussions from the home page..I was asking myself "who cares about the washer, the neighbors, drop one letter games..." I didn't pay attention that there were multiple feeds and multiple conversations--at the end of the day, WE ALL LOVE MICKEY and WALT. The rest of the conversations are just other people talking about what we are feeling today.

Choosing a different theme park--US vs WDW or BG vs SW...that's all added stuff. If it doesn't fit into your plans, then skip the thread. You may not know you should skip it just by the title. Read the beginning and then back out gracefully.

I don't plan to purchase DVC so I don't need to read those threads. Some days I do click on one and say "oh, not for me.."

The funny thing...number of threads that say this forum is negative keeps growing. (Yes, that's a snarky remark)

If it's a test, that implies that the are considering alternatives along the way. I believe venting in a public forum is one piece of a good strategy to communicate your desire for change.

Actually, I think it's a very ineffective way to communicate your desire for change. A better way would be to write directly to Disney's customer feedback (which I assume you've done!).

And, of course, stop giving Disney your money.

For every person who "communicates a desire for change" on here, there's another person who quite likes the way things are. Which one will Disney listen to, assuming the Powers that Be pay any attention to these boards? Probably the one who's actively planning to spend more money with them. :rotfl:

(But I don't think TPTB read these boards. I think they look at surveys and balance sheets, and hard numbers.)

Neener neener, mine was 3 months ago, I guess that makes me more qualified than you to dispense advice. :snooty:

Well, mine was a month and a half ago. So, there! :snooty:

Can't wait for our April trip!

see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil :rotfl2:

Why not just ignore the threads you don't want to read - usually after a post or two you know if you should continue, right?

I actually find this type of thread way more negative and right out of the gate it is very judgmental of others. If you hate it so bad rather than wasting effort whining about how negative everything is why not spend your time creating a thread that adds the value you say is missing.

Some may also need to take their own advice and look to other threads for information rather than contributing to negativity or venting negatively on yet another negative thread. ;)

The FP+ posts do not bring me down. I am very glad to hear other people's perspective and read their experiences good and bad. I want realistic information from those who know WDW well. I've learned so much about FP+ and if not for the posts and feedback I'd be clueless. I will continue to come here and read about FP+ until everything rolls out because I want real information from those that are like minded or tour like me to decide if my family will come back and when. Most people posting are very concerned and they have experienced, have been impacted or will be impacted by the changes.

This went about as well as I anticipated :rotfl2:

Love the 'you're more negative than me because you brought it up' argument; sound logic.
And you're right.
My mere mention of negativity (confirmed by other posters in this thread) pales in comparison to someone (with 3 posts) getting 10 page thread stating WDW is BROKEN :faint:

I'll let you all know how my trip to HS goes in early Feb when we get back...

I'd advise reading the WDWMAGIC forums and then telling me the DIS is overly negative. Seriously, read one of those Spirited Thoughts threads and you'll be back. I guarantee it.

Yep. But they ARE interesting reads, nonetheless.:)

I think if people read the posts on WDWs Facebook page in regards to what is upsetting people (the pace of the Mine Train, Avatar addition, FP+, Lock it In commercial) they would see that this place isn't that bad overall.

Yes, more and more people are voicing their displeasure with Disney on this board, and many many others out there. There is a common denominator much greater than "10" people on this board. I will give you a hint.....it starts with "D".;)

Definitely! I don't mind the FP+ threads (I usually skip them). But the ones that talk about how bad WDW is now make me sad/discouraged.

Don't get discouraged. We are annual visitors and have been for over 30 years. We have seen a lot of changes in that time, some good, others just ok, but never ever did I find it horrible.

Some just can't embrace change even when it might help the masses more than a few.

You will have a great time.

An extremely well thought out and articulated comment, Well Done ! :thumbsup2

You hit the nail on the head. I was helping a friend last week who has never been before and not done a stitch of research pick her FP+. I had the same realization as I was going through the options. Disney is leveling the playing field, and the years (decades?) of work some of us have put in are now for naught. The Disney achievement gap is closing. No more 6 FP for DISers and none for those not "in the know." Disney is redistributing the vacation wealth and that's hard to swallow when you've been the ones on the good end for so long.

I so admire you for being honest. I don't begrudge anyone that educated themselves to the point of being able to get multiple Fastpasses for the same rides at the same park. However that practice kept many guests from getting any.

And those that got shut out of any Fastpasses complained and they complained heavily and Disney listened. And basically there are only two choices, adjust or stop going.

I try to stay away from anything that looks like it's going to burst my WDW Bubble, unless it looks like it might be relevant info to my upcoming trip. It's kind of the same way I approach life over all...I try to stay away from the stuff that is negative for the sake of being negative, that doesn't bring anything substantial into my life. There is a lot of good info sharing and many fun sharing threads here and since it's been almost 5 years since my last trip (4 more days!!), I have really gleaned a lot of great tips the last month or 2, hanging around here!

See, this just confuses people. There is an assumption on here that "most" people never took advantage of FP in the first place. If so, who complained? And you keep making the statement that the people (who didn't use FP) "complained....and they complained heavily". Where is that officially stated anywhere?:confused3

It's been posted ad nauseam on this board that people like facts and speculation is frowned upon. Can you show us anything where Disney stated that? Maybe there is something. If so, I must have missed it.

Disney executives have made it perfectly clear WHY they instituted FP+ in their shareholder meetings. It wasn't because people complained...and they complained heavily. Research their FB page...go back as far as you want. How many complaints do you see on there about being shut out of FP?

If I understand your argument that people who complain heavily will get their way, then what am I doing wrong? popcorn:: I mean, besides eating popcorn this late at night?

I'm sorry...did someone actually say this? that you were MORE negative for bringing this topic up or that your "mere mention" of this topic "pales in comparison"?

The truth hurts (that this thread is in and of itself wholly negative), but to resort to such a dramatic hyperbole? Come on.

BE THE CHANGE. If you want to see more positivity on the DIS, try STARTING SOME POSITIVE THREADS. Or some planning threads.

Just a suggestion.

The DIS never brings me down. It is my way of staying up to date on all things Disney, good and bad. I can't wait until I book our next trip and I can start planning our new touring strategy for FP+. With the kids almost out of school we look forward to visits during "slower" times of the year.
