Do dining reservations ever get cancelled?

I'm having a hard time making my reservations this year for our august trip. Does Disney really try to look out for canceled trips and therefore cancel ADRs for people who couldn't care less to do so? I want to know if I should just settle for anything or keep trying everyday --I've been trying and it does not look like anything is really opening up. Sorry if this question has been asked before.

They really don't look for cancelled trips. Disney has no way of knowing if someone just changed resorts, or cancelled their trip.

You can always make some ADRs that you are ok with, and then keep calling to see if you can change them. That way you will at least have some ADRs made, and won't end up eating counter service the whole time.

Since dining and resort reservations are not tied together, there's no way for Disney to automatically cancel dining reservations if a resort reservation is canceled. Nor does it make sense as a person might just be moving to another resort or offsite.

No they do not.

But that is not a reason to stop calling if there is an ADR you really want to get. Guests can and do change and cancel their own restaurant reservations constantly.

People do cancel all the time. Check out the ADR thread for your month. I was able to get LTT (with characters!) last December on a MVMCP night because a DIS member posted that they had just canceled.
