I called yesterday to change some ADRs.

My first call I could hear a baby crying in the background. The CM had to put me on hold. After being on hold for awhile I hung up and called back.

The second individual had a dog who was barking in the background.

Do they CMs work from home?

Wow! That's amazing. It sure sounds like they do. We live in the Tampa Bay area and I know a lot of Disney reservationists work somewhere in Tampa. Maybe they're experimenting with home-based workers. I'm afraid what you described doesn't sound very professional.

I'm not sure. I would assume they work from a call center; if not I want a job! ;)

Edit:

If my cell phone battery wasn't dying I'd call and ask.

I would want that job too :)

:) I don't work for Disney - but I do work full time from my home- screaming kids and cartoons in the background. I try and limit myself to email and faxing as much as possible - however for those really important phone calls - I lock myself into the bathroom - LMAO!!!

I am the customer however in my professional life so my vendors have to put up with my work style - I would imagine having it the other way around would be terribly counterproductive. If my vendors want to deal with my company - then they have to deal with my interruptions - as a CUSTOMER calling somebody that worked form home - while I would appreciate the situation the worker has - I would have no patience for being put on hold and being interrupted while I was tring to ressies.

My boyfriend's sister works from home. Her son goes and stays with gramma while she works.

Edit:

I did call and I didn't get to talk to anyone (I called a line for Disney careers). I'm assuming its because it's after 5:00.

I work from home taking inbound calls, but not for Disney. Occassionally, the dog will bark or the kids will come into the office making noise. Sounds like a virtual call center to me. If anyone finds out if they're hiring PLEASE let me in on the info. That would be the ultimate work at home job.

Some do, yes, but not most of them. Most are in a call center (one of which is located in Tampa).

I heard once that those few who do work from home may have some medical, disability issues that might prevent daily work in a workplace. Can't verify that tho--.
I believe the overwhelming # work from the call centers.

Those call center 'phone farms' are really big. Maybe someone brought their baby in on Bring Your Child to Work Day and lost them there...and they brought the dog in to hunt for the baby! :teeth:

I wondered about this recently. Had an 'odd' call... I'm used to the call center background noise and the noise I was hearing was different. Couldn't put my finger on it, but this would explain it.

I just called today to change resorts and it sounded like the CM was outside(traffic noises). He put me on hold for a minute and when he came back there was no noise except him typing.

WOW, I would do that job in a split second. I worked in the call center for the Disney Catalog a few years ago and I loved that job! Then they closed the center in our town. : ( I was so sad. I still miss that job. I always wanted to work for Disney and never thought I could, living in Kansas! It was great while it lasted!

When I was moving to S. Florida, I called my credit card company to update my mailing address. The rep was obviously working from home. She put me "on hold" (actually just set the phone down) and I had the pleasure of listening to her chastize her child...loudly! I can appreciate the desire/need to work from home, but there should still be some professionalism involved. God bless those moms and dads that do work from home!!

You know, in hindsight, this thread explains a lot. When I called to make some adjustments to my reservations a couple of weeks ago, there was a lot of laughter and activity in the background. I even commented jokingly to the CM "Wow, sounds like someone's having a party over there!" She just said "Yeah, there's a lot of activity here today" or something along those lines. However, I now think this was a direct correlation to the fact that she was somewhat abrupt with me in ways I hadn't previously encountered with phone CMs. She was about the least "magical" person I have talked with so far and was mostly trying to rush me into ending the call. Except when she was meddling in my business. Heh! Weirdly, she tried to talk me OUT OF my previously made ADR for WTP for my daughter's b-day ("CRT is a big meal...you will be sorry if you send your daughter to this tea party after such a big morning meal") I said "The CRT ADR is for 8:20 a.m. I think she will probably be fine to have tea by 2:30 p.m.!" She said "Okaaaay! But I think that's too much in one day!" WTH?? She didn't ask me, like other CMs have, if there was anything else she could help me with today, etc. It was like I was bothering her. Maybe working from home isn't the best idea for phone CMs. Now that I think about it, this wasn't actually WDW-DINE, but WDW-CAST, but it's equally weird.
