Las Vegas Do CLOTHED Chorus Line Dancers Still Exist?

For years I have been telling everyone that the one place I want to go before I die is Las Vegas. (Don't worry, I've been a lot of other places, but this is the one still on the list.)

I don't have any interest in gambling, I want to see the chorus line dancers with the big feather head-dresses, etc. doing the synchronized dancing. I had a trip scheduled for last December that got canceled for other reasons, but as I was doing the planning I was told that the Las Vegas shows that I'm picturing don't exist anymore, and the ones that do are primarily topless. I'm not a prude, but that's not quite what I had in mind.

Last year I went to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. That's the kind of dancing I'm thinking of. Does it exist anywhere in Las Vegas? Please?

The show at the Tropicana (can't think of the name at the moment - I want to say Les Girls, but I know that's not it) runs twixe a night. For the earlier show, the dancers are wearing flesh-colored leotards. The only other big production show like that - Don Arden's Jubilee! at Bally's - I'm 99.99% certain does NOT do a family-friendly performance.

What you want to see is Jubilee. It's at Ballys and is a huge production show with the feathered showgirls like you are thinking of.

Here is a brief description:

They DO offer a clothed version that is shown earlier in the evening on certain days. The later show times are always topless. Call the main box office and ask for more info on when the clothed shows are offered. It's a great show and one that reminds me of what Vegas used to be all about.

Under the Dates, click on "See More Dates". Then under Upcoming Dates, click on Purchase Now and you'll see certain dates say (Not Topless) next to them. It appears to be mainly the Saturday 7:30 shows right now that are not topless.


Just an FYI for anyone interested in this sort of show with the elaborate costumes, they also offer a backstage tour that seems pretty neat. You get to see the costume and scenery area.

Since you're knowedgable about LV, let me ask my other question. My husband is not really interested in LV. I don't mind traveling alone and have done a fair amount, but somehow I'm not sure I want to go to LV alone.

I'm not interested in casinos. I want to see the dancers, maybe have a meal at the Stratosphere, walk from hotel to hotel, and possibly take a bus tour to the Grand Canyon. Usually when I travel alone I'm in my hotel by dark.

Safe for a young middle-aged woman alone?

Just an FYI, this show you are thinking of, Folies Bergere, closed in March of 2009.
That's why in the description for Jubilee it mentions it is the last authentic showgirl revue in the city.

I thought that it had closed, but had to Google it to be sure. Sign of the times and economy I suppose.

Hi Pam,
There are a lot of shows that are not topless, but it depends on what you are looking for specifically. If you want a showgirl type of show, then unfortunately there aren't many of those left. Jubilee is the main one and as you saw, it's only clothed on Saturdays as of now. That MAY change once summer attendance picks up, and the demand increases. You can always call the box office and ask.
And I will say that I've seen that show with the topless dancers and it's really not that bad. Unless of course you are planning to bring younger guests, but otherwise, it sounds weird to say, but it almost just feels like part of the costume!!


There are many other great shows though if you just want a show, not necessarily a showgirl production. The Cirque de Soleil shows are amazing. KA is probably my favorite of those. But Mystere and Love are great as well.

My new favorite show on the Strip is Le Reve. It's not a Cirque show but it follows that same theming of acrobatics and such. It's at the Wynn and is truly spectacular.

Keep in mind that with Love and Le Reve the seating for those shows is actually better a bit further back from the stage as a lot of the performing is done up in the air and you don't want to strain your neck looking up the whole time.

Check out www.vegas.com under the shows section. They break it all down into categories such as headliners, magic, adult, comedy, etc. It helps a lot.

I'm sorry your husband isn't interested. The nice thing about Vegas is there really is something for just about everyone. Gambling, shopping, fine dining, shows, etc. As well as nature spots like Valley of Fire and Red Rock canyon. You can make it as pricey or as cheap as you like depending on where you stay, eat and do.

I don't gamble or spend much time in the casino sections of the hotels either, so you aren't alone there. And there is plenty of other things to do.

I think Jubilee would be a good show for you. Maybe even the backstage tour.

May I ask why you want a meal at the Stratosphere? Are you staying there?
It's just an older property and not one people usually choose for a dining option, so I was curious.
The Stratosphere is further down on the Strip, closer to downtown. It's not one of my favorite properties, BUT if you take a ride up to the tower, the view is amazing.

If you can, I'd try to stay mid-Strip. Perhaps Harrahs, Mirage, Flamingo, etc.

I think you will be fine. There are enough people out on the streets during the day (okay it's packed!!) that you will be fine. Just be smart about it, use the same common sense you would in any big city. Stay in well lit and well populated areas, don't wander down any back alleys and you will be fine. I promise.

Just going from hotel to hotel and seeing the different properties is a lot of fun. Take lots of pics. Make sure you see all the free things like the Bellagio fountains and conservatory, the Mirage volcano, the TI pirate show, etc.

If you go downtown to see the Fremont Street Experience, you will be fine as long as you stay ON Fremont Street. It's well lit and that's where the show is. Take a taxi, ask to be dropped off at the Golden Nugget, and walk through the hotel directly out onto Fremont. Then do it in reverse going back.

I have some friends who've come here solo and had a great time, so it definitely can be done and I'm sure you'll have a fun and safe time.

Define "young middle-age". I think my first trip to Las Vegas was toward the end of the eighties, and I stayed at the Riviera. That would've made me, um, old-young, approaching young-middle-age . Yes, alone. No car, I know I took the buses. Long weekend, I went to a VERY big/fancy Sunday brunch somewhere mid-Strip. No, wait - that was a different trip, stayed off the Strip at a Courtyard. Again, no car.

Next was 1998 - we left a few hours before Mandalay Bay opened. Then every couple of years, then (after a sibling moved there) a couple of times a year for two years, now at least once a year Always alone, for the most part, except the sibling IS there in case of emergency... and for a couple of dinners. No problem. Just, as MommaU4 says, be alert to your surroundings. If you have a car, use valet parking. It's free, just tip a dollar or two when your car is returned to you. If you park yourself, ask at the casino for a security escort.

Another possibility, maybe - input welcome - taxi to the intersection of Fremont and Main Streets, opposite the Plaza. It's more direct (Main Street forks left off the Strip just beyond the Stratosphere) and lets you out by the Gold... something. Not Golden Nugget, not Gold Spike, not Gold Coast (don't laugh at me, Momma4U! ), I can never remember the name of the hotel but it's got good ninety- nine cent shrimp cocktails if you're a player's club member... Golden Gate! No, I didn't remember it - I cheated. I looked it up on cheapovegas.com

Anyway, it's a more direct route overall, and there should be taxis waiting in the same place when you're ready to head back.

I've actually never been in the Golden Gate hotel downtown, so it definitely might be an easier way of accessing Fremont Street. If so, that's a good thing.

Truth be told, I am not a fan of downtown Vegas. Just not my thing. But I do think the Fremont Street experience is a must see at least once.

Yes, the Stratosphere is primarily for the view. Seems like it would give a nice overview of the city and surrounding areas, and pre-sunset sounds perfect.

And, how could I forget. I HAVE been to LV, if the airport counts. My sons and I stopped there on the way to Disneyland. I went to Disneyland Paris by myself, and your replies are making me think LV solo wouldn't be such a big deal.

I'm headed to LV in less than three weeks, and my husband is coming as well, so that takes care of my concerns about traveling alone.

I've just been reading the LV threads and came across this one that I started in April. I must admit that I'm surprised that I'm really going to LV after wanting to go for years. And, yes, we have tickets for the clothed Jubilee on Oct. 23. Hooray!

I always appreciate it when someone "closes the loop" on a thread they started, so I want to report back on my trip.

Jubilee at Bally's is the last of the big production shows on the strip as far as I can tell. Every Saturday, the 7:30 PM show is not topless, and that's what my husband and I went to Oct. 23. It was exactly what I was looking for. Lots of great costumes, LOTS and LOTS of feathers, great routines, and a very enjoyable 1 1/2 hours of entertainment.

The theater was far from full (I guess the topless shows must be more popular) so I dont know how much longer it will continue to run, but I highly recommend it.
