I will be traveling to WDW with my 14 year old DD in July. In the past, I've needed ID, but she didn't. Do I need to get an ID of some kind for her to get through airport security?

Hi there! In order to get a response to this question, I am transferring it over to the Transportation board. Please check there for further replies. Thanks! :)

We returned two weeks ago and just to be safe I took along DD's, who is 15, birth certificate. We were never asked for her ID but she was asked at the gate how old she was.

I called Continental Airlines shortly after booking our seats (booked in December for our trip this June) and asked. We are travelling with our 3 and 6 year olds. They told me as long as they are travelling with an a partent/guardian no ID was required for minors.

We are flying on USAir in November and I had the same question. I called them directly and they told me that no child under 16 needs ID. HTH!

You child must be in middle school and have a picture id from the school.

I would bring that just to be safe.

Not all school shave ID's. My son goes to a private school, K-12. 130 kids total. No need for ID's, they all know each other. He does have a passport though.

In Feb 2001 (even before 9-11) I flew from Cleveland to St Louis with my twelve year old daughter ( I forget which airline). The clerk at the check in counter would not let us fly without ID for my daughter. She was VERY rude to me and seemed surprised that she had no ID. I explained that we fly all the time and never needed anything. Luckily I dug through my purse and found her school library card and she made me put it in her pocket. I even asked why because the card did not have her picture on it- but the woman insisted that she must have "identification on her body." Not something you want to hear as you are stepping on a plane!

We are flying on Frontier Airlines in August and I just checked their website for this very thing. They have a section that discusses new security guidelines and it says that anyone over 18 needs a goverment-issued picture ID and that anyone over 12 traveling alone also needs one. I do intend to call them before we go just to be sure but where would I get DS age 9 a government-issued picture ID if I wanted to play it safe?

I flew on Delta in November, they told me anyone under 18 didn't need ID. My 14yo SIL wasn't asked for id.

I called Delta yesterday regarding a question on my seating, and while on the phone, I asked about ID. According to the person I spoke with, A Goverment issued picture ID is required for anyone over 18. If no picture ID, then 2 other forms of ID. Under 18, no ID necessary. I guess you'll get a different answer from everyone! All I know is that I'm going to make sure we all have some sort of picture ID, DL, HS ID, whatever!:)

On American, we've needed ids for our 16 year old DD on all three trips we've taken to WDW since 9/11. On the first trip, we had to show ids three times...security, gate and as we boarded. That was in early October. Since then, each leg has varied. Coming home in March, my DH and I had to show ours as we checked our baggage but only had to show our kids' as we boarded. If your child doesn't have a school id (ours didn't until high school) or passport, perhaps your DMV will provide one. In Illinois, I understand that you can get one that way, although we have never done so.
