We taking our DS12 on the cruise. Will he be expected to order dinner from the children's menu, or can he order from the adult dinner menu if he wishes?

I hope they can eat from the adult menu. My dd8 is already planning to eat steak every night. I wonder if this is available every night.

Your DS can order off any menu. Our DSs, 7 and 10 at the time of cuise, both never even looked at the children menu.

BTW , That applied to the adults also :).

Our son (9) wanted to try some food from the adult menu but was nervous if he would like it. So our server brought him both, a grilled cheese from the children's menu and a spicy chicken from the adult. He ended up eating part of both. The menus are interchangeable. Some days he would have an adult appetizer or desert and a child entree and visa versa, they are very flexable.

oh and steak is an option each night on the adult menu, even if it is not listed as a main course you may always order a strip steak.

Thanks for the info...

I'm glad to hear the adults can order from the kid's menu too. That Mickey Mouse ice cream bar sounds good! :D

I had a Mickey bar for dessert one night this week...mmmm!
We've had kids at the table on a couple of cruises, and they were typically more adventurous than the adults! If they didn't like something, the servers were always great about bringing them an alternative.

We cruised in 2001 when my kids were 9 & 11...my DS (11) really enjoyed being able to try new foods, which my DH and myself were thrilled about! (he is usually a meat and potatoes boy!)..what a wonderful opportunity for the kids to try new foods..like a previous poster said, they would order maybe a kids appetizer, an adult main entree, and ALWAYS enjoyed ordering dessert from the main menu!

My DS-11 was upset the first night at dinner, they didn't have escargots on the menu. He said something to our servers and they told him it was on the menu for the next night. DS said he would wait until the next night to order them. Well, I don't think the servers believed he really wanted them. They ran to Tritons and brought back a order. Of course DS ate the whole thing! Our servers soon learned that DS was not the normal kid in his food likes. He stopped eating off the kids menu when he was 5. If he had to stick to the kids menu on the cruise, I think he would have starved!

After reviewing the sample menus on the various websites, I told my kids before we cruised that they were not allowed to order entrees from the kids menu. They could have all the hotdogs and pizza they wanted at lunch time.

I told it this was an opportunity to try new foods, and that they were only allowed to eat off the kids menu if they did not see something on the adult menu that they would like. I knew that that would not be necessary, as my kids will always eat grilled/barbecued steak.

It was a great experience for them. Over the course of the week they tried, escargot, duck, lamb, and a number of other seafood dishes.

I was curious what they would do when we sent them to dinner by themselves when DH and I went to Palos on tropical night. Everything turned out well. Even my 11 yr old son, would not let my DD (7) order from the kids menu.

Have no fear....your son will have a feast...LOL! I never saw so much food in my life! Then our waiter always brought a couple extra dishes for us to try. Our daughter couldn't decide on dessert one night, so he brought her one of each!!

UNLIKE my DS! We went to a very fancy restaurant between church services on Christmas Eve. We took one look at the menu and wondered what DS would eat. When the waiter came to our table, DS announced to the waiter that he wanted "chicken fingers and french fries".

Fortunately, this fancy restaurant was able to handle an off-the-menu request like that and everyone was happy.
