Do cats honestly think they are hiding?

Do cats honestly think they are hiding, even if their rear ends are sticking out? Fergie carries most of her weight in her rear; she's shaped like a beanbag chair, with the beans at the bottom. This morning she was "hiding" by sticking her head under the chair. I NEVER would have guessed where she was.

Sadly, though, Diana -- not the sharpest crayon in the box -- has been fooled by this tactic before. She's lucky she has her good looks to fall back on.

Yes, the other day I stopped in for lunch and my cat Spencer was totally asleep on the dining room table...BLECH!! He totally thought he was invisable;)

:rotfl:

I love kitties! I love it when they do something really goofy, like sliding off of a rail into the trash can ( mine have done this) and then they look at you (after they have composed themselves) like; "who? me?, naw, that commotion you heard must have been the dog."

Yeah, mine do this too. Especially the little one who will hide with her tail out. I guess she forgets its there.
The fat one does this b/c she can't get under things well enough.
My mom had a dog that did this, just her tail would be out, and we would say "where's coco", and she would thump her tail. Yeah, she was the master.

Or how about when they hide "behind" a piece of newspaper (mostly flat) or paper on the floor when they're stalking something? :rotfl:

was Sir Chester Yak of Pearl Harbor....a beautiful Himalayn.....he was out to lunch most of the time......he would get in my fruit bowl on top of the old tv set and commence to fall asleep......he would also fall out of he bowl and fall onto the floor.......not once did that cat ever land on his feet.....just went down flat......Yak also thought he was something else.......he would drape himself around my neck head at one side and back end and tail at the other.....and then try to catch the tail in front of my neck......sure do miss that kitty....

When my husband and I first were married, I wanted a kitten.
He had never had a cat as a child, only dogs, and said the only way we would get a kitty was to give it a dog's name!
Well, needless to say, my prissy female Tabby cat was named"SPOT".
This cat had a complex from the start with a name like that!
But my husband now "tolerates" kitties. We have had 3 more added to out home since the infamous "SPOT" But these have normal kitty names!!!!!
He now will compare the new kitties to HIS Spot!!!!

Cats instinctively know when it is Vet Time. How do they know this? Simba hides under the bed, of course his butt hangs out.:teeth:

I think it's so funny how sophisticated and graceful and elegant and intelligent cats can be one minute.... then the next they're goofy and silly and clumsy and a little dim. ;)

My cat Sebastian sticks his head under a sheet and seems shocked that I can actually find him there! :teeth:

My kitty, Furface, thinks shes hiding when she flattens herself out on the ground underneathe the coffee table. I mean she is completely flat, her chin is touching the ground and she always slicks her ears back so she can be "flat".

The thing that she does that my hubby hates is when she jumps on the bed. When she gets on the bed, she doesn't jump like a normal cat. It's as if she has too much "air" and it always looks like she is thrown on the bed. It creeps my husband out when she does this. I think its funny, because Furface thinks she's so graceful, until she lands on something that she wasn't expecting to be on the bed and puffs out like a puffer fish!:teeth:

Oh, I forgot, our little one "hides" in the bath tub. So you walk in and she's all flat laying in the bottom of the tub. Like you don't notice a brown lump in a white tub.

This isn't about a cat, but when I was growing up we had a Poodle "Peaches" who was blind and a Boxer "Lola" who would take anything that belonged to Peaches. We would give them little Milk Bone dog treats. Peaches would take hers to the corner of our den, keep in mind that she's blind, put it all the way in the corner and take her nose and bury it, or at least she thought she was. She would spend about 10 minutes "burying" this bone in the corner her nose would get raw from the carpet, then she would stop, sniff around and walk away. All the while, Lola is watching and waiting and as soon as Peaches would walk away Lola would take it. We would always laugh, she truly thought she was burying this bone even though she could still smell and feel it.

goudaman40 - the kitty in your signiture looks just like my first kitty, Donuts. He was a great cat - a little goofy, but a great cat.

He was always the bright one that used to chase his tail - but only in two different places in the house. Anytime you'd open the door to my standing shower, he'd run around in circles for the longest time.

The other place was his "house" which was a double decker scratching post/hiding place. He'd hang out the front on the top part with his tail down the hole in the back back. Eventually, he'd look down at the notice this "thing" hanging down in the bottom part and, of course, he just HAD to chase it. You'd hear this loud THUMP as he hit the ground after flipping himself out of his house, but he never seemed to figure out why he couldn't catch that hanging thing.

Tigger, the kitty I have now, used to chew on his hind legs when he was under a year old, like he didn't realize that they belonged to his body. He'd really go to town on them.

Kitties are so much fun :)

Cats instinctively know when it is Vet Time.
I just took our youngest to the vet last week to be neutered. The other two had had shots and checkups within the last couple of months (one just two weeks ago). When they saw me take the carrier out of the closet they shot out of the room and up the stairs like their tails were on fire. Luckily the youngest doesn't mind going to the vet (yet) so I didn't have to chase him down :teeth:

LOL Yep, cats are endless sources of entertainment. Our Mitzi is very skittish--you can't approach her, but if she approaches you, she's a total lovebutton. She's really funny about being approached, though. She seems to think if you don't make eye-contact with her, you can't see her. She'll sit on the hamper right next to the washing machine, my hands (and the laundry) will come within inches of her while I'm loading, and she'll stay there...but if I look right at her, BAM! She's outta there!!
