Do APs need to be activated before taking part in AP exclusive events?

I've always already had my annual passes when exclusive events roll around, and I just get the emails saying, "Hey, this is happening, here's a link to sign up"

We planned to get DH an AP in June in case of previews for Galaxy's Edge caused us to make another trip down - we weren't expecting it to open in August (was anyone ).

Do you know if the AP is purchased and linked, but not activated, is the guest eligible for AP perks like exclusive events and previews? We are trying to decide if we should buy it now just in case.

We are in the same boat in that we have the APs but they aren't activated and wont be until June. I did call into the AP line to ask about a discount for something but it wasn't available. Had it been, I believe the CM would've let me book it (our APs are already linked to our MDE). She also offered to book some things (non-discounted) for us since I was already on the line with her.

There are things you can book without it being activated, just have to show proof of an activated FP at the time you use the perk, ie room reservations, discount after hours events etc. I’m not sure that you can on exclusive AP events though.

How can I buy a hard ticket for after hour party with AP discount without having yet the AP? Calling Disney?

I am thinking about the possibility of upgrade my tickets to AP but it seems that it is only possible personally in Orlando.

My own AP has always already been used once special events have been announced. Like I had the AP preview for Pandora booked, but then couldn't go b/c of my Odyssey of the Mind team making it to Worlds that year. In this case, I already have mine, but DH doesn't, and we won't be back down there until June. Hmm...I mean, I could always find a reason to go down earlier than that, LOL!!

Call and see what they can do for you, they might be able to upgrade your ticket to AP over the phone, but you wouldn't be able to activate it until you arrive.

Right...I'm clear on what I can do without it activated, just curious about being able to book events. We may go ahead and take the risk to wait until June, on the hopes that AP previews will be in July or early Aug. If they announce dates for AP preview before taking sign ups live, we'll go ahead and get his AP just in case...we're going back again June 2020, I just want him to be able to use it for any preview that might occur. He would never forgive me if I got to go on a preview and he had to wait a year
