Do airline prices ever go down immediately (like one day) before the flight?

Just curious...

I believe it depends on the time of year you go. Also, on Oprah last week, they had a travel Expert on and he said when you call to make reservations, NEVER NEVER tell them WHEN YOU WANT TO LEAVE!! Tell them your destination, but ask them this:"Could I have every published fare on the X route to X route, I'll wait." It takes 3-6 seconds for them to come up with that info. Than tell them to: "Scroll to the bottom of that list." They will tell you that is the "special" where you have to fly out on a Wed, for example and return on a Tues. or something similar. Ask: "How much is that fare?" Sometimes you can get your fare for 100.00 less than if you used the other way!! Good Luck!:smooth:

SpaceAce, the answer to your question is no. The only time a fare would go down within a 2-4 day period prior to your flight is if a weekend esaver is offered. They come out on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and are valid for departure Friday or Saturday (depends on the airline) with a return the immediately following Monday or Tuesday. The only other time would be right before a holiday, but more than 1 day out.

that depends on the routing to which you are departing and arriving. right now Delta has a one day advance fare of $314 from Los Angelos to New York. thats pretty cheap for no notice. but tis heavily restricted. Ameirca West also has a 3 day advance and theirs goes by zones and National Airlines also has a one day advance notice tkt for certain cites as well. but these are heavily restricted. United has also run one day advance specials on the internet. for instance last May I got a $179 fare no advance notice the day before travel from Pittsburgh to Orlando. it left here on a monday and returned on wed of the same week. BUt as TS also stated they do have the esavers which vary from week to week but hose are just weekend travel. The only advice I can reallyoffer here is to check daily and if possible multiple times during the day. Its hit or miss for fares like this.
