Do a lot of schools have October breaks?

It used to be the case that all Utah schools were closed, but not anymore. Most of the larger districts do close, but many of those outside the Wasatch Front have teachers who do not belong to the UEA. Our district doesn't even have a fall break this year.

For the OP, I expect most fall breaks to happen earlier in the month, but still expect decent crowds. I love to go in Oct. The weather & decorations are fabulous! Enjoy your break.

I know that they stopped calling it "UEA" weekend several years ago and just started calling it "Fall Break". I did not know there are any schools that did not close. We are in far northern Utah and our district closes, as well as 2 districts that I know of in Salt Lake.

Very interesting.

Where I live in northern ca (sf east bay) many schools (not all by a long shot though) have a break in October. However they are all different lengths and several different weeks.

In my area, 4 small school districts, we have 2 weeks off in October and those weeks fluctuate. This coming school year our break is the first 2 weeks of October. In years past it was the middle weeks or even the end of the month (a few years ago we returned from break only 2 days before Halloween for example).

I guess my point is, yes there are many with the October break, but since they are spread out and since not every schools has the break crowds do increase but not quite as much as spring break (with the exception of utahs break which I have been told makes a bigger difference than other breaks but hey they only get a 5 day weekend). But it's still a good time to go (to me anyway) with the beautiful weather, the seasonal fun and parties, and the simple fact that it's Disney which i would take any day of the week over going to work.

We are in metro Denver and always have fall break the last week of October. I can’t speak to surrounding districts, as I do not know their schedules. Our in park days will be Sunday – Tuesday of that week and we are looking forward to the weather and the Halloween decorations. Now I guess we will also be looking forward to meeting most of Utah as well! (Lovely people, BTW!)

Nevada also has a long weekend at the end of October for Nevada Day.

As others said, some schools do get breaks in October.

Plus you will have Halloween Parties in the parks.

But if your ONLY options are late October or Thanksgiving/Christmas...then I think October would be the least crowded of the three (though probably still pretty crowded.)

Nevada also has a long weekend at the end of October for Nevada Day.

I was going to say this too. The last Friday of October is a state holiday in NV. Last year Las Vegas schools (the majority of the population) combined the holiday with 2-staff days, so kids had 5-day weekends. As long as your dates don't coincide with the UEA week though, I think it would be less busy than Christmas or Thanksgiving. The fall décor is beautiful, and the weather is usually nice.
