DMIL came back from the grave...

I agree completely with Wishing on a Star, I used to work for a public utility company, and people often tried to use names & SS nmbrs of elderly or deceased people and when they got denied, they hang up call back with another identity.

I would call 411 to get the hospital TN directly and do not go by whats on the bill you got, better safe then sorry.

I would also run a credit check on MIL to see what other bills are out there, if there are any. It is very easy to track someone down if they use their stolen ID to get utility services, you just get the address of services rendered then call the landlord. The people who do this will be gone before you find them, but at least youll have an idea of who it is. If you dont find any other bills, then its prob just an error. Maybe the insurance nmbr was typed in incorrectly.

Good luck with it, if it is theft it sounds like you maybe the first link into a big time theft ring from that nursing home.

I did try to call the hospital but they are closed until monday. It has been very upsetting for us because my MIL was the only parent my DH had growing up. His father died the night before his birthday. When we had to put her into the nursing home it was devastating for him. She had Alzheimers and didn't recognize him any more. Now it is like he is dealing with her illness and death all over again. Fortunately he is trying to maintain a sense of humor. He wants me to ask the hospital if she looked good for a 7 year old corpse. :lmao:

I don't think this is the case. We have an unusual last name and my MIL was never in this hospital when she was alive. It was to far from her home and the nursing home. It was also in an area she would never have gone to. We live in Philadelphia so there are quite a few hospitals here. All of her drs were affiliated with the 2 closest to her home. My SIL was always the contact then because she lived with her. When she went in the nursing home my DH was made the only contact because we were the closest to it and as I had very flexible hours so I could always get there in an emergency. We filed a police report today and they believe that the nursing home had a breach of security. They also think this is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Thank you all for the words of encouragement and sympathy though.

I'm sorry. Honestly I was really hoping it was just an honest mistake so you wouldn't have to deal with all the other stuff. Hopefully they get this resolved very quickly and the person/people behind it are brought to justice.

I can sympathize about the car. My work sent me to an Excel class this past Tuesday at a hotel and while I was in there, someone hit my car on the side too as they were parking. No note or anything......The lot was packed as the hotel was close to Disneyland and a lot of vacationers were there. What a pain!

I would just forward the information to the authorities and let them deal with it. Call the hospital let them know she passed away 7 years ago and then don't worry about it. You won't have to pay for anything and don't need to stress yourself trying to figure out who stole her idenity.
