Using DME for the first time in September, whats the procedure for this regarding luggage at the airport?.
Do we do the double baggage reclaim, and then take our luggage to a DME desk, or do they handle the luggage for you, and you just get on the DME bus/.

thanks

I see you're from Norfolk, UK. Is Orlando International Airport your first point of entry into the United States? If so, you'll see your luggage at the airport when you go through US Customs and Immigration. After that, Disney will take your checked luggage to your WDW resort, where it will "magically appear" in your room, usually a few hours after you check in.

Many UK guests arrive at Orlando Sanford International Airport, not Orlando International Airport. DME service is not available at Sanford.

Thanks Im aware of that, but i only ever fly into MCO.

so do I need to pickup my luggage after customs and immigration, or just bypass this completly and find the DME bus.

Here's what Disney's Magical Express FAQ says:

INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS

Q. As an international traveler, do I have to claim my luggage?
A. If the Orlando International Airport is your first point of entry into the United States, you will follow the U.S. Customs & Border Protection process and claim your luggage upon disembarking the airplane. Once you have completed this process, you will give your luggage back to the airport officials and proceed to the Disney Welcome Center located in the Main Terminal Building on the A side on Level 1. Your luggage will be transferred to the Baggage Claim area, where Disney will collect it. If you have already completed the U.S. Customs & Border Protection process in another U.S. city, you will proceed directly to the Disney Welcome Center; Disney will claim your luggage. Q. On my day of departure, how will I know what time a motor coach will pick me up at my Resort hotel to return to Orlando International Airport?
A. The day before you check out, you will receive a Transportation Notice advising you of your motor coach pick-up time and giving you other general information. Your motor coach pick-up time will be approximately four (4) hours prior to your flight departure time from Orlando International Airport. You are responsible for bringing your luggage to the motor coach pick-up location

Q. If I am departing for an international destination, can I still utilize Resort Airline Check-In Service?
A. At this time, the service is only available if you are flying domestically (including Puerto Rico). If you are flying internationally, you will need to check in directly with your airline at Orlando International Airport.

I don't have personal experience using Magical Express after an international arrival at Orlando. Perhaps someone else can provide additional details about exactly how "you will give your luggage back to the airport officials."

It shows how to "give the luggage back" right on the Orlando airport website.

http://www.orlandoairports.net/goaa/arrive/arrive.htm

International Only: After exiting the aircraft, international passengers will be required to produce passports at the Immigration checkpoint.

International Only: After clearing Immigration you will recover your baggage from the baggage carousel and proceed through the Customs checkpoint.

International Only: After clearing Customs, place your baggage on the baggage belt and it will be transported to the Main Terminal.
Proceed up the escalator to Level 3 where you will pass through the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checkpoint before entering the hub of the Airside Terminal.

The link above shows pictures of the luggage claim area and the belt where your luggage is placed after customs.

clkelley this relates to normal procedure into MCO and not DME, its DME I am asking about.

Did you try asking on the UK board? I realize this is the normal site for transportation questions, but maybe there are posters there who don't read this board but know the procedure for coming from the UK and using DME.

If I'm reading it right, after you pass through U.S. Customs & Border Protection, there's a place to hand your bags back to airport baggage handling.

After that, your bags will be handled as though you had arrived on a domestic flight. Disney will take possession of your bags and deliver them to your room a few hours after you check in at your resort, based on the yellow DME luggage tags. You will bypass the second baggage claim, just as domestic passengers using DME bypass baggage claim.

Yes, it relates to normal procedure into MCO. But until you are finished with customs you follow normal procedure.

You pick up the bags at the customs baggage claim, go through customs, then put the bags on the belt and proceed through the airport as normal.

Once you put the bags on the belt, they are transferred to the area of every one else's baggage claim and at that point the DME folks will pull the bags that have yellow tags.

You just proceed to the DME Welcome center.
