Ok,
Here is my story.
We are staying at Disney/Seaworld for 10 days, thinking of car pickup on day 4 for a week.
I am getting better car rental rates (abt 40% less) from MCO compared to disney car centers. Did not check downtown, but will they pick you up ?

Can I use DME from Resort to MCO and pickup my car ? Do I have to leave early in the day or there is a schedule for DME per resort that I can refer to ?
And more importantly, will they let me just use the DME even though I am not flying out that day ?

Thanks.

As a Disney Resort guest, you are entitled to one trip each way between your resort & MCO. The trips must be taken between your check in day and your check out day.

Contact DME and tell them you need transportation to MCO. I'm not sure how they phrase the timing question. You can tell them you don't have a flight, but you want to be an MCO at 'x' time. Your pickup at the resort should be x-3hours +/-15 minutes.

As far as downtown locations. I only know of Enterprise that will pick you up. They have a location not far from WDW

You know you can get a rental car at most of the hotels by DTD - a short 5-8 minute walk from DTD..

Avis is @ the Hilton
Dollar @ the Wyndham
Alamo @ Holiday Inn.

Yes you can turn the car in to MCO without paying a drop off fee! Would be a time saver to go to one of those locations. Rather than the 3 hour trip to the airport plus the time spent at the airport to get a car and then the 35 mintues to drive back to WDW. You could easy waste 4 hours just to get a car at the airport.

*** ALSO remember as your trip gets closer the car rental rates will drop. Trust me. I always book the Tue before I leave and the last 5 trips to WDW I have never paid more than $100 for a mid size weekly rental.

Three hour trip to the airport? It should be no longer than 2 hours round trip, and that's slow!

Oh, and I'm pretty sure there is no "one way" fee for any rental inside Florida.

You are completely wrong on this. I have priced several one-way rentals and several of the big name rental companies charge one-way fees. IIRC, the largest fee was $150. :crazy2:

Budget has a location at the Doubletree near DTD. You can take a quick cab ride there from DTD. I have found rentals from this location to be less expensive than from MCO. I have always had good luck with this code: Y937800

I could be wrong but thought I read it somewhere. I'm doing two "one ways" in June with National and there's no drop off fee.

The trip to the airport does not take 3 hours. It's an hour, tops.

Here's what you do: you call DME and tell them you don't have a flight, but you want to be at the airport around such-and-such time. The will arrange for a bus to pick you up about an hour before then. Easy peasy.

Sounds good, thanks for the tip.

Well, I priced for next couple of weeks from today and they are priced more than the 4th week in April.

I did try a pick up from Disney and drop off at MCO and the difference was $120, for the week, even though they did not mention a drop off fee.

Thanks, I will try that.

This seems to be the general consensus then, we may be taking the evening off and rest at the resort, so it may not sound that bad and I can go make the trip to the airport, but I do hope I get a cheaper rental from around Disney.

Weird.... did something happen in the last couple of days, my weekly rentals went up from 99/week to 299/week. What happened ?

I finally have my numbers.... mco rental is 30% less.

We want to do the DME, but I will return to the airport next day after the park to pick up the rental.
I can get a DME from the resort to airport after 9 pm right ? If you guys can confirm then I think thats what I am going to do.

DME runs 24 hours.

If you don't want to be up front with the DME person and you want to be at the airport at 9ish, just say that you have a flight that leaves at, for example, 11. They will put you on a bus that leaves at 8.

Rental rates change quite often. And luckily, assuming you've booked a rate that can be changed or canceled, you can add codes and coupons to it until the very end. So keep on checking to see if a better rate, or a good code or coupon comes out, and change your reservation. Also, sometimes it will flip flop as to which way is better. For our February trip, for good while MCO was cheaper (but still very expensive), then suddenly it was much better for us to rent from MCO and return to the Dolphin (vs returning it to MCO). I'm talking hundredS of dollars cheaper to return to the Dolphin. So that's what we did. But I kept checking until I couldn't check any longer! :)

Op-

Are u factoring in the extra airport taxes on rental cars into your comparison?

Did you try the mousesavers site for all the car rental codes?

Just some thoughts.

Wait..... but I don't have a flight at all on that day. Are you suggesting that they don't care if I have a flight or not ?

Not likely you will see a drop off fee with National. Some places do charge a drop off fee.
