Hey gang!

Im planing doing a split stay in late september this year. 4 nights at Polynesian Resort and 4 nights at another resort (havnt decided on which one yet).

Im traveling from Copenhagen Denmark via Washington to Orlando.

1. Question:
When i make a reservation for the first 4 nights at Polynesian Resort (room only discount, no package) on the Disneyworld homepage and add the DME service, shall i note it on my reservation, that i dont know my flight yet on the reservation.

The following information is from the disneyworld homepage:

"International travelers has to go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection process and claim luggage after disembarking plane"

and then proceed to DME with my bags. I just cant see any other possible option to use when making a resort reservation online. It leaves no seperate option for international travelers, who cant skip baggage claim!!!

2. Question:
When my stay at Polynesian Resort is over i will transfer to another Disney resort for my final 4 nights. I have booked a one way ticket to Norfolk, Virginia because im going to board a danish navy ship there (going on a NATO exercise). Im traveling from Orlando via Atlanta to Norfolk with Delta Airlines.

The following information is from the disneyworld homepage:

"Resort Airline Check-In Service
If you're departing domestically on a designated airline, enjoy the convenience of our Resort Airline Check-in Service, which allows you to receive your return boarding pass and check luggage at your Walt Disney World hotel, bypassing airport check-in completely.
Simply visit the Resort Airline Check-In Desk located at your Walt Disney World hotel up to 3 hours prior to your flight departure time. A valid government issued photo I.D. and your hotel room key are required to participate.

Resort Airline Check-In Service is available with the following airline carriers:
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Continental
  • JetBlue
  • United
  • American Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Northwest
  • AirTran
  • US AIR"
What kind of I.D. is valid, does it have to be a United States issued I.D. or will a danish passport and danish military I.D. be ok?

Many thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

Hi Denmark! I am not really sure what you are asking in your first question. Do you have trouble with setting ME up as an international traveler or do you ask about arrival procedure at MCO? But as another international traveler I will try my best to help! :goodvibes

If you are flying via Washington, you will have to get through customs there. This means in Washington you first go through immigration and then you will collect your bags and then take them through customs. After customs there will be a drop of place (a big conveyor belt) where your bags get send off your your connecting flight. You will then arrive in Orlando on a normal "national" flight and won't be any different from a US resident arriving there.

The only difference is that ME will not send you the ME luggage tags. So you will have to collect your luggage at MCO. Or if you feel comfortable with that, give ME a description of your bags and your luggage receipts. Personally, I would not want to do that, but I guess that is just a personal decision. If you collect your luggage you will then have to take it to the ME bus yourself. And it would be customary to tip the driver then for handling your bags (1-2 dollars per bag is what I have been told).

If you have trouble setting ME up on the website, you can also do it by calling CRO. The phone number is +1 407-934-7639

For your second question: I think your passport should work fine.

Hope this helps!! :goodvibes

Thanks for your reply! :)

So, dont i need to book DME in advance before i arrive in Orlando?

Im still not sure if they will accept a Danish I.D. (passport and/or military I.D)

You still need to make a reservation for Magical Express before you arrive, so you can not go as a walk-up. I am also sure they won't have problems accepting your passport as a form of ID.

Hey CR Resort Fan 4 Life! :upsidedow

Im traveling with SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) and they are not on the list of participating airlines!

When i try to book on the Disneyworld homepage, they ask for which airline you use, or you can add that information later on! But since SAS is not on the list, then i cant add it later on my reservation. Can i just book DME without giving them my airline information, and then show up at DME in Orlando Airport with my luggage?

Btw. its nice to see all the time you use to help people who plans to stay at Contemporary! :thumbsup2

The airline you fly does not need to be one of the participating airlines when you arrive at WDW. It only matters when you fly home because if your participating airlines then you can check-in for your boarding passes and check your bags at the resort you are staying at. However since your an international passenger you could not check-in for your boarding pass and check your bags at your resort, because that's only for domestic flights within the United States.

Im not going home after my vacation, im going to Norfolk to board a danish navy ship (F357 THETIS). Flying from Orlando to Norfolk with Delta Airlines.

Then I guess you should be able to use the Resort Airline Check-in for that flight after leaving WDW.

It helps Disney plan the number of buses needed at the various hours when you give your airline and flight number. But it still works without correct information filled in there. (Your desired DME travel date must be correct and must match your resort check in; you may make reservations for some members of your party to arrive later).

Leaving WDW on a flight to a U.S. city where you will claim your baggage abd stop over, you can still use the resort check in if your ariline is represented there. What counts is that if you need to clear customs in Orlando then you need to carry your baggage to the Magical Express bus back to the airport.

It cuts down on confusion to wait until you get there and then deal with questions or changes or problems with DME going home.

(This parrot slants his head differently) The only difference is that ME will not send you (the overseas guest) the DME luggage tags. When you arrive in Orlando, give ME a description of your bags and your luggage receipts. Or if you feel comfortable with that, you can collect your bags yourself at MCO.

Hi Denmark,

as others said, you need to sign up for ME before you arrive at MCO. I think your problem is that ME does not accept a SAS flight because there actually is no "real" SAS flight arriving at MCO. I am quite sure that your flight from Washington to MCO will be a code share flight operated by a US carrier. Since SAS is star alliance, I guess it is a United Airlines flight. At least that's what was the case for our Lufthansa flight connecting through IAD. The SAS website should give you the information regarding the UA flight number. So you can enter the UA flight number on the ME website.

And regarding your passport: I never had a problem in the US to get my German passport to be accepted when it was stated that government issued ID was required. Especially since we got the EU passports where everything is translated into all the EU languages including English! :goodvibes
