Anyone use DME Thursday after the security changes? Was just wondering if there were longer delays in getting baggage at hotel.

Being that it's only been about 24 hours since the new changes, I don't think there's any info in yet.

But here's my guess -- there will be NO difference in delivery of DME luggage from MCO to resort. WHY? Because the new security restrictions have to do with what now can't go in carry-on luggage.

So number one, DME luggage is checked, not carry-on. Number two, the security restrictions have to do with what goes INTO the airplane, not what comes out of it.

I can't see that changes in what can go into carry-on luggage has any bearing on checked luggage coming OUT OF an airplane.

Good point, but I wonder if the busses will be delayed by people picking up their luggage from the carosel and loading it under the bus. Bus drivers probably have to wait for those scheduled for that ME pickup or for a full bus. It does take extra time to load luggage under the bus normally. I can't imagine if more people start doing that.

In terms of the ride from MCO to the resorts, NO ONE is scheduled for an exact bus. You'll NEVER have a bus waiting for "you" to show up. Buses leave when they leave, and new ones arrive. For example, if you arrive at 1:00 p.m. and decide to have lunch at the airport and don't make it to the DME Welcome Center until 2:00 p.m., you haven't "missed" "your" bus, you'll just be sent into the proper queue for the next bus going to your resort.

HOWEVER, it's totally opposite for the return trip to MCO. There, you will be assigned an exact scheduled bus time, and if you miss your assigned bus back to MCO you've realy gummed up the works.

The only effect I can see is if more folks claim their own luggage because they have to have their toothpaste, sunscreen, contact stuff right away, and just dispense with the yellow tags altogether. Then there will be longer lines at the dispatch area because the buses are going out with fewer people because the luggage area is full. Also, the stops at resorts will be longer because they are unloading more luggage.

I've read folks say it won't be different because Mears used to take everyone's luggage. However, the dispatch times with Mears was much slower. There were two occasions where I sat there with my Mears beeper over an hour waiting to be put on a bus or van.

I guess that only one fewer yellow tag per party would be experienced.

The baggage that is claimed manually and put under the bus amay also have to be left with the bellhop at the resort until the room is ready. Whereas baggage with or without yellow tags relegated to automatic delivery does not cost extra tips every step of the way.

Flew home last night. Used DME from Old Key West. The only difference was a very long line at the resort's airline check-in. Just about everyone who could, was using the resort's check-in to avoid the lines at the airport. DME was on schedule and as has been previously posted, they wait for no one. If your not there, you catch the next ride.
