DME - Does it matter if lead guest is not on the bus?

My kids love riding the DME bus, and we like having luggage transported to the resort. We got a much better deal for the rental car from MCO than we did either at DTD or Disney Car Care locations, so one of the adults will take the rental car (plus all of our carry-ons) to the resort, while the rest of the party takes the bus to the resort. I'm the lead on the Disney reservation, does it matter if I don't show up for the bus? Does it even matter?

It is important to report to the Magical Express welcoming area ...
(OT) ... please listen carefully because some of the options have changed ...
... to be sure that all of the current instructions are followed. After that, if any family member wants to duck out and go get a rental car, no problem.

If the entire family changes its plans and will not be riding the DME bus, and some of the baggage had yellow DME tags, it is still important to go to the welcoming area to find out and follow the instructions that day for ensuring that the baggage does not get lost in the shuffle.

Nope, sorry, but the 'lead' person does not have to report in! 'If' that were the case, then the lead person could just switch MBs with another person that was riding the bus! But, it's not an issue. As long as you are listed on the reservation, there will be no problem. There have been multiple (actually, too many to count) instances where a person made the reservation (for resort and DME) but others in the party were arriving from other places, at other times...with some arriving well before the 'lead' person. They have never had an issue getting on a bus. It is just simply not an issue!!!
