Has anyone on the deluxe dining plan ever tried to substitute a side dish for an appetizer. Is this allowed. Or can you substitute one of the side dishes listed for what comes with your selected meal? I don't like the sound of some of the accompaniments for what I might like to order, but some of the side dishes look good(like hazelnut sweet potatoes at Artist Point, or the truffle mac and cheese at Yachtsmen)

Thanks

You can certainly ask about subbing a side dish for your app on the deluxe...if the prices are comparable, they may allow it.

As for subbing what comes with the entree...in general they will let you sub IF the item you want is listed as coming with another entree. For example, at Le Cellier, risotto comes with the mushroom filet, but we prefer potatoes. Which come with one of the other entrees, so they will let us sub those potatoes for the risotto. They will not let you sub for an item listed as an ala carte side, like a cup of the cheese soup.

When I was I Narcoossee's I ordered thee surf and turf but I asked to sub the lobster for scallops and they had no problem doing it. I would just ask and the worst they can say is they can't but you will never know until you ask

This seems to generally be the best advice -- ask if you want to try something unusual, and just don't count on it being a "yes" answer.

It's totally up to the restaurant what kind of substitutions they might allow you to make. There is no one rule that applies to all restaurants.

I tried to sub the cream cheese mashed potatoes last year instead of a App. when on DLXDDP at LC and they said they couldn't do it. It can't hurt to ask though, just have a back up plan if they say no. I didn't mind paying OOP for the potatoes, but I just wasn't hungry enough to eat 3 courses, so I asked.

At both Yatchsman and also Artist Point we have been able to substitute a side that was listed at the bottom of the menu for the one that came with the entree. I don't eat potatoes and Yachtsman had no problem giving me mushrooms instead. I've done this three times. Last Dec at Artist Point my mom was able to subsitute the sweet potato gratin for the side that came with her entree. At Narcoosee, I've always been able to substitute a side for the potatoes I don't eat.

At Le Cellier we've always been denied though. You can substitute a side for any other side that's listed with an entree, but not for one of the sides listed at the bottom of the menu. There is one other place where I was refused, but I forgot where. I told the waiter no problem and just asked to have the potatoes left off then. When my plate came, he had added double broccolini.:rotfl:

Your best bet is to just ask your waiter.
