:wave2: Guys,

Thinking about booking to go on 7 Nov as part of the Bonfire Extravaganza package (3 nights/4 days for the price of 2/3) that the DLRP website is offerring and just after a little advice from the experts before I unleash the plastic again!

Got prices for a family of 3 to stop at Cheyenne (£365), Newport Bay (£469) and New York (£537). Based on their comparative merits, and assuming money wasn't an issue (I wish!), which one would you recommend? I'm lead to believe that there's some kind of floating bonfire on Lake Disney, but I'm undecided whether it'd be worth forking out an extra £100+ to see it?

A few more questions if I may:-

1. What can I expect the weather to be like in early November?
2. What time will the park close - went on my homeymoon last September and it was 20:00, so is it the same in November?
3. Are any of the attractions/rides likely to be closed.
4. Will the Xmas Parade have started.

Sorry, I bet a bit of internet surfing could've found me the answer to most of the above, but there's nothing like asking people who've experienced the magic.

Hello again LoidPhil :wave2:

Is this because you want to watch it from your hotel? Otherwise you can go and watch it, regardless of which hotel you are staying at. The best view (based on how it was done last year) was from in front of (or should I say behind?) Sequoia Lodge, and the least crowded area is up by the Newport Bay.

1) When we went early November last year, the weather was very pleasant - not too cold during the day, though definitely chilly in the evening.

2) Not sure, but chances are it will be 8 pm - unless they play around with the park hours again, like they did earlier this year.

3) Only got information about this up to October, at the moment.

4) The Christmas season starts on 10th November this year, and presumably that is when Fantillusion and the Christmas Parade will start too. There is also a Bonfire Spectacular on the 10th, so if you really want to see the Christmas stuff, could you work around that perhaps?

Thanks so much for responding Bexx. We stayed at Sequoia Lodge last year, and although we loved it I'd like to try somewhere different, so I think I'll plump for Newport.

Just one point re the start of the Xmas season, after posting my message (but before reading your reply) I was having a browse around DLRP's website and found information suggesting that it starts from November 6th, or at least the parades do (unable to post URL, but if you go to the search site facility and search on keywords "christmas 2006" it's the 5th link down on the results screen).

Can I ask the source of your information re it beginning on the 10th, as the main reasons for choosing the 7th were not only was it midweek, and had the Bonfire Extravaganza, but Xmas season was also underway.

If you are certain that the Xmas festivities don't start until the 10th then I may just hang fire until after then.

Thanks,
LP

Hi

If you check out the current thread "shows & parades" you'll see a link which shows the Christmas Season starts the 11th November 2006.

Hope this helps :confused3

I'm confused now!!!! I looked at the entertainment calendar on dlrp.co.uk. That just says that "Christmas" starts on the 10th Nov, but the link doesn't work to find out any more detailed information. But, as you say, according to the official site, the Christmas parade starts on the 6th Nov, while the Enchanted Fairytale Ceremony doesn't start until the 11th.

Hopefully somebody may know more to help you. But even if you went on the 7th, it looks like you will see some sort of Christmas celebration

That's what I'm hoping too. I am dithering about whether to ask them to change my booking for Buffalo Bills because it will possibly clash with the fireworks but then, I was going at that time because I hoped to see Fantillusion and some of the Christmas stuff rather than the bonfire spectacular so I am coming down on the side of leaving my Buffalo bills booking alone.

Just an update on the confusion surrounding the start of the xmas season and associated parades. I've phoned DLRP bookings and the really helpful gentleman explained that the commencement of the Christmas Parade and Mickey's Winter Wonderland show are as detailed on the DLRP official website (that's 6 Nov and 5 Nov respectively). However, the xmas theme itself won't start until 10 Nov, so don't expect to see any xmas decor or snow on Main Street before then (unless it's the real stuff!!)

We loved November at the start of Christmas season as the photos in my link show :)

Hi, I would say if it is a family you can't get much better than the Cheyenne. Great atmosphere, nice rooms with bunk beds for kids - and if like me you need the room to be DARK to sleep, I found the Newport Bay curtains were too light for me to sleep through the sunrise :(

I did enjoy my stay at the Newport Bay, however we do not use the extra facilities like the swimming pool etc, however if you think you will I would go for this.

The Sequoia has received great reviews, have you considered this hotel? The HNY is generally seen to be an 'adult' hotel - well as adult as you get in DLP!!

There will likely be a few rides close, it is hard to escape this - they're even closing BTM in the summer! However because this time of year will be rather busy because of the Bonfire Spectacle, hopefully it won't be any of the really great ones.

And yes the park is likely to shut at 8pm as I do not think they are doing any more 'test runs' with the park hours this year - though don't quote me on that!

Hope this helps :)
