We are doing Disney Panama Cruise January 2011; coming into port @ LA; waiting on possibility of Disney coming up w/package to do Disneyland.

However; we will be booking our return flight to Rochester, NY shortly....have a few questions. We would like to fly out of Long Beach via Jetblue. How far, how to get to airport, where to stay - don't really want to stay onsite ($$$) - spending alot $$$ already on 15 day cruise! but will if we get package deal, etc; any thoughts for a westerner NYer who has never done Disneyland?

We did talk to Disney & they said any package for cruise people who do want to do DL would probably come out mid-Sept; but really need to book airfare before then. Thanks! :)

Are you going to DL no matter what, and it is only a question of whether you will stay on site or not? If not, how will you know what day to book your return flight for?

I'm sorry I don't have a lot of information for you, as I only live about an hour away from Disneyland so I don't fly there. However, I do know that if you stay at a DLR hotel, they have a free shuttle to and from LAX. If you're booking a hotel around the DL, I would call them directly and ask if they offer any transportation to and from the airport.

We just flew into Long Beach. We used Zippy Shuttle. The charge was $110 round trip for 4 people. It included a stop at a grocery store. I think they charged $20 (included in the $110) for this. The shuttle was waiting for us when our plane got in. We had a private van both ways.

IT is about 25 minutes or less from airport to Disneyland.

We have flown into LAX too. We didn't get a free shutte, had to pay. It was a long drive, not private van, and not fun. I really loved flying into LGB, it is so small and easy!

We are going to DL for sure, we come into port @ LA Friday AM on DCL; from there (I think) we will take Supershuttle (?) to DL which I think goes to 1 of 3 DL Resorts.

We will stay Friday, Saturday & Sunday nights; fly home Monday PM. We want to fly home Jetblue & think it would be easier for us to fly out of Long Beach (can book Jetblue from there) rather than getting back to LAX. Is Long Beach closer than LAX?

When we do Disneyworld Florida, they have Magical Express to & from Orlando airport; which we understand they do not have in California, so a bit confused as to how to do this.

Long Beach is MUCH closer than LAX. It is my second choice behind John Wayne. It is about 20 minutes from DL to LGB. You can either take a shuttle - we use Supershuttle - or a cab. It is a nice small airport, easy to navigate. Jetblue is a great airline (although one flight attendant did not think so :rolleyes1 ).

I don't believe the DLR hotels have any free shuttle to any airport. I have asked in the past (we also fly, 2-4 times a year) and was always told no. I would avoid LAX if at all possible.

My first post was wrong, the shuttle from LAX to DLR is not free. It is $20 one way, or $30 round trip. It will also drop off at any hotel in the DLR vicinity (not just Disney hotels). I'm sorry I can't offer more information on Long Beach... it is closer but I don't know anything about that airport. It is smaller so it would probably be easier than LAX... but JetBlue does fly out of LAX too.

We often fly into/out of LGB. There's a straight shot to DL, it takes about 20 minutes. You can get a cab or a shuttle or rent a car. You might check to see what a short rental would cost you...you might be able to save a little bit. This past summer we did a deal through Travelocity, but you could easily try Priceline, Hotwire, or the companies directly to see what kind of a weekend deal you could get.

The one thing to remember about Disneyland is that there are many hotels very close to the park that are within walking distance and are very nice. We stay at the Candy Cane Inn each year, but there are many fans of Howard Johnson's (HOJO) and other close hotels here as well. They are usually significantly less expensive than the three Disney hotels, I have heard of some great Priceline deals for those also.

We love Jet Blue & LGB ~ super easy to get to DLR and back to the airport - you should check out this thread ~*~*~* We "use" this guy, he's great ~ **~~**

Thanks, DisneyMomma81, for including the link to the Airport Proximity to DLR and Ground Transportation Information Super Thread.

B]jl[/B], you are correct that there is no Magical Express or other free transportation options to Disneyland Resort from the local airports. I think you'll find all your questions about how far away airports are (Long Beach is definitely closer than LAX!) and how to get to and from DLR and the airports on the first post of this thread. The rest of the thread includes people's feedback on how they liked the various shuttle/bus/taxi options. Our family generally uses the Disneyland Express when we fly into LAX or John Wayne (Orange County). This isn't an option at Long Beach, but there are lots of other feasible options including Super Shuttle (which will go anywhere, not just the three resorts), Prime Time Shuttle, or even a taxi. Take a look at the thread for phone numbers/contact information and the approximate costs for each option.

There are several less expensive off-site hotel choices right across the street from the entrance to DLR. Lissame mentioned a couple of the perennial favorites. Here's a great map by Perlster that shows where things are located around the resort: Where is a ??? around DLR - HUGE .jpeg map. Note that the main entrances to Disneyland and DCA are right where the map is labeled "Pedestrian Entrance". That should give you an idea of what's close and give you a point of reference when deciding where to stay.
