I just checked the weather for Jan 22nd through the 25th. It looks like it will be raining the entire time while I am there. I really should know this, but what rides close in the rain. I can't imagine that many are effected, but I really would like to have an idea. Can anyone help?

I would only be able to guess as to which rides may close. I just wanted to say how jealous I am of you! I am wishing it will rain durring my trip!

As far as my guesses I'd say: Tea party, Tarzan treehouse, and Autopia

I'd be very surprised if you really get extended rain during your entire trip - it just doesn't do that in southern California very often! Even getting rain for more than a few hours on a single day is fairly rare, and hardly ever two days in a row (though scattered showers here and there are possible). Add to that that the weather people are hardly ever correct about rain more than a few days out - I really wouldn't worry about it until you get within a few days of your trip, and then if there is still rain in the forecast there is some chance you could get some.

That said...we really need the rain, so I hope we will get a stormy day soon!

I heard "El Nino" is back and will start next week.....thus we're going to get a lot of rain :cool1: Bring it on...we need it :)

disneynerd420, did you get to go to DL in December? If so, did you post a picture intensive TR again? :)

ITA with all of this. There was no rain in the forecast for today, but it poured in the middle of the night, and now they are saying it's going to rain all day. But it looks like it's clearing up already, LOL! (I'm in San Diego, so Anaheim may be different, though we usually have the same temps.)

We're going during that time as well. Using our AP's one last time before they expire in Feb.....

Not real happy about the weather forecast and have debated changing but then again, hopefully it won't be miserable? We will take ponchos and umbrellas though.....maybe rainboots for at least the kids. Really hoping it doesn't rain a ton as keeping the stroller dry is a real pain and I hate being wet although it doesn't look like it'll be too cold!

Just checked accuweather though and it isn't showing rain Fri-Sunday....yesterday it was. Guess we really won't know until much closer.....I will try not to worry until then!

When we were there in October, it rained on and off for two of our days. YMMV, but we rode Matterhorn in a light drizzle (fun and different) and Autopia (not as fun with a 4-yard-old driving after damp waiting in the mostly-uncovered line). Dumbo and Teacups were closed when I walked through Fantasyland sometime that day.

Also, Tom Sawyer Island was closed after the intermittent rain, probably all mud. Everything else was open that I recall.

The rain let up just before our lunch at Carnation Cafe. They said they wouldn't be open if it was raining and were using only a limited number of tables under umbrellas in case it started up again. That was probably the biggest inconvenience both days -- everyone stuffed into indoor seating at busy restaurants. I don't mind waiting or riding in the rain, but I draw the line at wet food.

It was pouring rain the last 2 times we went and Dumbo was not closed. I got absolutely drenched on that ride. It is also the best time to ride Splash Mt. The line is 10 minutes and hey, you're already wet, so why not.

I would highly, highly recommend you bring extra socks. Our feet were soaked and all the stores were sold out of socks by early evening.

We were there in December while it was raining. I absolutely loved it! It cleared the park out - everything was pretty much a walk on. It's amazing how relatively dry you can remain if you plan correctly. I know your DLR vet so you'll be able to suggest rides, attractions, etc where there is an indoor queue.

The only closures we noticed due to the rain were Alice and the Tea Cups. We went on Dumbo, Astro Orbitors, Screamin (which actually hurt. Rain + Speed = Pain for the face), and pretty much everything else. You'll have a great time! :goodvibes

P.S. - just carry a Poncho. They're sure ugly, but really convenient! :thumbsup2

I only noticed the Teacups being closed during the rain. While at DCA, they seemed to stop Mullhorn Madness (sp?) when it started raining.

The winnie the pooh ride was closed when we were there in december during a rain storm. I'm not sure if it was just a coincindence of if it always closes in the rain. Kind of a bummer since we walked all the way over there but we scored a DL candy cane at the pooh corner shop so all was not lost. Dumbo was open with no line and plenty of empty elephants but we weren't brave enough to go on it in the rain.

We are going at about the same time and I'm already worried about the rain! Any good suggestions for an easy to pack, small poncho for all of us? I really don't like those garbage bag disposable one's. Also, do you need an umbrella with the poncho?
TIA!

I hear that the ones they sell at DLR are pretty sturdy. Also, if you're bringing a stroller, don't forget to bring something to cover it up. We just used a poncho. We had an umbrella but sort of gave up on it after awhile. Someone had one of those huge umbrellas with them on the small world ride and opened it up at the end and it covered them in the front row and the three of us in the second row. Extra socks is a good idea and make sure your shoes aren't too ventilated. DH was wearing tennis shoes that he didn't realize weren't water proof so his socks got wet fast. Rain pants would have been nice too.

When we went to WDW last year I picked up some ponchos from Walmart that stuff into this little bag thing with a handle. When packed into their bags I was able to stuff all four of them into my purse.

At this same store I bought a couple of umbrellas that collapsed down to about 6-8 inches and tossed them into our backpacks.

They were all really cheap and worked great. It was nice to have them small enough to toss into a bag and not feel like I was dragging around a ton of stuff. I'll be bringing them on this trip for sure!

I first want to say thank you for the replies. I do appreciate everyone's input.

Where did you go to view a forecast for those dates? Everywhere I look gives me at the most a 10 day forecast which only takes me to the 22nd.

ETA: Found one but what I am looking at shows cloudy for every day except for rain moving in on Sunday night into Monday morning. http://www.accuweather.com/us/ca/anaheim/92801/forecast3.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&zipChg=1&metric=0

I will be there on the same days +2. I promise not to do a rain dance if you promise too!

Well, when I checked accuweather yesterday afternoon it was saying rain friday through monday. But it seems they have updated since I last checked it. This definitely gives me hope that it will not be raining the entire time. Thank you

disneynerd420, did you get to go to DL in December? If so, did you post a picture intensive TR again? :)

I did go to DLR in Dec for a few days. I had a wonderful time, and while I did take pics, it was not nearly enough detail for a pic intensive trip report. It is very difficult to take pictures and push my mother in a wheel chair at the same time. Nevertheless, I was planning on coming back and posting the pics I did take, but as soon as I got back into town, I became deathly ill, and by the time I was well again and had time to sit down to work on it, I had already forgotten most of the specific details of my trip.

On my upcoming trip it will just be me and my best friend since 6th grade so I should be able to get more pics this time and come back with an awesome TR. I promise!

Thanks again everyone!

First off, Disneyland in the rain is beautiful, and if it only rains for a couple hours then it can clear out a lot of crowds, make all the sidewalks pretty, and just be something fun and different! I hope you don't cancel your trip because of rain that may or may not even materialize.

My own experience for our trip in December--the forecasts this far out tended to say it would rain the whole time (Wednesday - Sunday). Actually, some of the forecasts predicted rain at last Thursday-Sunday all the way up through the days we actually took our trip.

In reality, it rained some on Friday (not too bad until evening and even then it wasn't super-hard) and pretty solidly through almost all of Saturday. Wednesday was lovely and Thursday and Sunday were partly cloudy, to my recollection. My mom was unhappy that she didn't get to see the sun (she came in Thursday afternoon and left Saturday afternoon) but for my five-day window, 3 days were dry. (I think it rained overnight Thursday night/Friday morning?)

Some surfaces get VERY slippery in the rain, so be careful. A lady in front of us slipped and fell in the downhill area of the queue for Space Mountain. :( (She got right up, helped by her family; she appeared to be more embarrassed than hurt.) Outside of some rides, we were told to shake out our umbrellas before walking inside--again, things got quite slippery indoors. Shoes with traction are good.

The Christmas parade was canceled due to rain. :( I don't know about the Pixar Play Parade, as it does involve water, so maybe it can go when it's sprinkling? Teacups and Alice in Wonderland were closed. The Mark Twain and Columbia did not run. I think Autopia was closed on Saturday due to rain. I don't think any of the indoor rides were affected at all, but obviously if it's pouring hard and the queue is outdoors, Disney may stop it.

I take it back that the indoor rides weren't affected...There was a fairly large group of people coming in to Innoventions to get out of the rain! :) The CM letting us in emphasized about three times how warm and dry it was inside. :)

Tomorrowland seemed a pretty popular place to be in the rain, since most of the attractions are basically fully indoors.

Finding a place to eat can be tricky; seating was full up at Hungry Bear and I think we waited about 30 minutes in line to get our food. (One person was also saving two tables for people and they came with their food about 2 minutes before we actually finished eating, which didn't help the seating situation in general...but that's another matter.)

Oh, and if it's raining hard you might not want to bother getting Indy FPs--on Saturday when it was raining hard during our trip, they just let EVERYONE into the show building, whether or not you had a FP--I guess they thought it was too mean to make people wait out in the rain? So the FP line was longer than we'd seen it that trip and having a FP appeared to be meaningless. (The line still was not terrible, though; I think we backed up into the spike room, versus the excavation/well area that it usually stopped in.)
