We have stayed at PPH hotel and are not that familiar with DLH, but are considering DLH.
How many towers are there?
Is it worth the price difference from PPH?
Outside of being the original, what do you think is special about it?
How longer/shorter is the walk to DL DCA? Are there towers closer to the walk?

I've stayed at both and YES absolutely I think the price difference is worth it!!
There's three towers from what I remember, we stayed at the one that's looks straight into Downtown Disney (I'm so sorry I can't remember what it's called :guilty:) and the view was sooooo nice and since it was the closest to DTD that tower was the shortest walk!
The rooms are much MUCH nicer in my opinion at the DLH. The PPH felt more like a giant motel whereas the DLH feels like a resort. The headboard with the lights is SO CUTE along with all the detailing throughout the room. They also seemed newer and more well-kept.
As for the walk- I honestly can't say NOW since they're now doing security in the Grand Californian recently, when we stayed at the PPH we went through that hotel every time since it was a much shorter walk than going around. I think since they closed down the option to walk through the GCH the walk from the PPH is longer than walking from DLH, since you have to walk from PPH to DLH then into DTD- but I could be wrong on that!
Hope this helps!! :P

thanks for the info. Am Icorrect in assuming that the walks back from the parks will be longer with DLH than PPH because we can walk through GCH coming back to the hotel?

I THINK that's incorrect- I haven't been in the parks in almost 4 years (!!) but according to what others on the forms are saying (if I'm reading it right :scared:) it seems like the walk will be shorter if coming from DLH. I don't think the GCH is letting anyone in or out unless they have a room key/resturant reservations for GLH. So if you're at the PPH, you would be walking from PPH -> DLH -> downtown Disney. Hopefully someone who's been there more recently can chime in though and correct if me if I'm wrong!

If you are walking from the hotel to the parks, then you cannot cut through the GCH unless you are a guest at the GCH or have a restaurant reservation. Because of this, the walk from PPH to the parks is longer than the walk from DLH to the parks. On the walk back from the parks to the hotel, you can enter the GCH via the DTD entrance and then exit the front and go to the PPH. So, going back from the parks to PPH is the same as it always was.

To the parks: PPH --> DLH --> DTD --> parks.
From DL: DL --> DTD --> GCH --> PPH
From DCA: DCA --> GCH --> PPH

So the walk back is quicker? I know that we zig-zagged a lot through GCH, would that still be quicker to PPH than the direct route to DLH going back? Last time it wasn't financially feasible to stay at DLH, just at PPH. We did use the walk through GCH daily. This trip we could stay at either. I booked PPH due to the close walk. Now it seems like 50/50. Going into the parks quicker at DLH coming back quicker at PPH. trying to decide what is better.

ahhhh that makes sense, thanks for the clarification!!

DLH has three towers. Fantasy Tower, Adventure Tower and Frontier Tower
The Fantasy Tower is where the main check-in lobby is located.
The Adventure Tower is over looking DTD.

When staying at the PPH or DLH there is the option if you're in DL to ride the Monorail back to DTD to save some walking.
When in DCA, depending on where you are you can exit through the GCH gate to save on steps.

The difference in steps to and from the park for both hotels is slight.
I'd choose the hotel you prefer and not think about the distances.

Loved DLH!!!!! It was so wonderful, we stayed there on both of our trips. Rooms, grounds and pools are a step up from PPH.

DLH for sure! It's classic Disney goodness with plenty of dining options including a brand new breakfast menu at Steakhouse 55! The pool area actually manages to have its own atmosphere that is definitely enhanced by a glowing to go drink from Trader Sam's. The rooms are neat and have a lot of little Disney touches. The beds are awesome, too, and you'll love sinking into them at the end of a long day. As always, the CM'S are awesome and super helpful. And yes, I took ALL the stationary! :D
