DLH Suite or 2 rooms at GCH?

OK, here's another "what would you choose" scenario. The players are my little family of 3 (me, DH, DS8) plus my mom, sister and nephew (age 3), so 6 of us in total. The trip will be in mid-Dec. I'm looking at either a one-bedroom suite at the DLH or 2 rooms at GCH (ideally connecting). What would you choose? I've stayed at DLH twice already, but never in a suite. Would a one-bedroom suite be spacious enough for the 6 of us? For $250 more we could get two rooms at GCH, but I would want them to be connecting. Has anyone had issues getting connecting rooms?

I'm leaning towards GCH for these reasons: more beds with two rooms, closer to the parks (really handy if it rains), new experience since we've never stayed there, and the holiday theming at GCH is wonderful. I'd be bummed if we couldn't get connecting rooms though. I want the adults to be able to socialize after the kids go to bed, so that's what appeals to me the most about the suite at DLH.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thank you!!

Have you looked at a 1 bedroom suite at PPH? The 1 bedroom at DLH sleeps 6 (2 Q beds and 1 Q Sleeper sofa) while the one at PPH sleeps 7 (2 Q beds, 1 Q sleeper sofa and 1 twin size sleeper chair).

Here is the issue I am seeing.... With the one bedroom, you will have 2 queens in the bedroom and a queen sofa in the living room. What are your plans for where the kids will sleep? If they are on the sofa, there goes the stay up and talk area. For the $250 you plan on spending at the Grand, *I'd* go with the 2 bedroom suit at the DLH.

In the 1 bedroom, you could put the 2 kids in one bed, 2 adults in bed 2 , then 2 adults on the couch. Here are pics.

Thanks for posting the photos! What tower is that in? I like the set up a lot. I would love to get a 2BR suite, but I am paying using half points and half cash and the 2BR suites are not listed on my points site. I think we would be fine with the 1BR. I'm thinking the kids, my mom and my sister can be in the bedroom on 2 queens and DH and I will sleep on the sofa bed. Have you slept on the foldout before? Was it tolerable? I'm not too picky when it comes to beds, as long as I have a quiet room that's all I need.

I didn't realize the PPH suites had sleeper chairs as well, that's good to know. Yes, I have considered that, but since I'm paying partially with points I have to go with what is offered on my points site and they are not offering the suites at PPH, or the 2BR suites at DLH. If we decide to stay at PPH we would get 2 rooms and then could pay entirely with points. I just would just prefer one of the other two hotels if we can swing it.

If you got two rooms on the concierge floor (3rd I think) at PPH that would give you the courtyard patios to chat on (they are basically connected) or you could even go sit out on the pool deck with the patio doors open and be close enough for an emergency with the kiddos. But that suite looks doable. You could even put the kids to bed on the couch and use the bedroom for chatting if you wanted.

I personally haven't slept on it, but all my adult children have, and there have not been any complaints. In fact, my daughters prefer it as they view the living room "their room" then.

When you say mid Dec do you mean the week of 12/11 thru 12/17 ? Any dates after that and you will be at peak attendance and may have trouble getting what you want. We have gotten connecting rooms at the GCH everytime, going almost every year since they opened with no problem. They give priority but no guarantee.. They have given us rooms with Courtyard view , which has the Monorail passing thru and rooms are close to the elevator. They once gave us DTD view as an upgrade but when I complained about the constant drum noise that was scheduled to go on until 10pm, they moved us to a quiet Courtyard view.

The connecting rooms were perfect for us, especially with little ones. I didn`t care to stay out late so I would babysit the 3 Grandkids while my Daughter and Son-in-law went out. Early in the morning the Grandkids would knock on the connecting room door and come into Grandpas rooms while the parents got ready.I don`t know how many bathrooms a suite has, but having two bathrooms is a huge plus

I would either do a 2 room suite or the Grand. I don't think the set up of a one room would work very good for your party as there would only be one full bathroom. If you are not adding club you most likely will not be in Adventure tower, if you are, it's a 50/50 chance.

We just returned and loved our 2 room suite 10th floor of the Adventure tower. Last November we had a three room suite top corner floor of Frontier, which should be a great room but I thought the layout was odd and didn't care much for it. My problem with the suites is the lack of control you have over where you get placed. I wished they would go to charging a little more for the Adventure tower views so you could have a little more control over where you en up.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite at PPH in June and it had 2 full bathrooms. Also, it didn't have the twin size sleeper chair in the bedroom - it had the fold down couch/futon-thing like the regular rooms have.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I really appreciate it! Right now I am leaning towards the DLH suite. I think a 1 BR will be fine for us. Plus, we know the DLH and love it already so I know we won't be disappointed. @Malcon10t, do the 1BRs have a half bath? It looks like they do from the pics I've seen online. We are all pretty low maintenance types (well, except my mom, lol), but having the extra space to get ready is always appreciated!

Our trip will be Dec 10-13, so I do want to get something booked soon.

All the ones I have been in (Adventure and Frontier) have. I don't remmember about the one in Fantasy Tower.

My post may have read wrong, all the suites we have stayed in have the half bath in the living room portion. What I meant was only one bathtub/shower in the bedroom portion and the half bath in the living room. Sorry if the 1 bath comment was misleading.

5forMickey, that's interesting to know. When we booked the 1 bedroom suite, we were told 2 full bathrooms and luckily, that's what we had. And actually, we had been put in a suite on the 3rd floor that we had to change out of (horrible mildew smells) and that also had 2 full bathrooms. We would have been VERY unhappy to wind up with only 1 shower/tub since there were 4 of us. I guess you just never know what will be in the room!

Yeah, we have probably stayed 16 times in a two room suite and they have always had one full bathroom in each of the bedrooms but only a half bath in the living room. The three rooms suites (4 times) were the same. That being said, we have never been in Fantasy tower only Adventure (mostly) and Frontier (3 times). That's my biggest gripe with the suites is that "you just never know".

In reading through this thread again, I'm wondering if the difference is that my suite experience is at PPH and yours seems to have been at DLH? (I had commented on what I found at PPH because a few posters had mentioned that as a possible other choice.) Very interesting to know the differences, for sure. :)
