Hello. We have always gone to WDW. I haven't been to Cally in years and told my husband that he would probably enjoy it with so many other things to do in Souther Cal. We now also have 3 children. 7, 4 and 14 months.
We want to try and use our DVC points and stay at the DLH. I wasn't sure if it was worth the extra points and get a 1 or 2 bedroom suite or if we should do 2 connecting rooms. My mom might come with us too. Also, from what I understand, there are 3 towers. Which would be the best to stay in.
Thanks and sorry this post is so long!

Have you posted on the DVC planning board? I know there have been posts about going to DLR and staying on points.

Most of the folks have talked about staying at the GCH on points. Staying at DLH is less points and I love their pool. (There's no pool hopping) You probably will have to have 2 connecting rooms.

I have used DVC points at the GCH and DLH, I am in the minority I know in that I prefer the DLH! I am not even sure if you can rent the suites on points or not. I would check with member services and I also agree that posting this on the DVC board as well might yield some answers. But in my Vacation Planner book, suites are not listed, just the standard view rooms, premium views and concierge. They do have connecting rooms at the DLH however.

The towers have been renamed recently, so when I say the Sierra is the best, thats the old name. Gee, I am so much help I know!

I will add that the hotels of the Disneyland Resort are different than the deluxes and DVC's at WDW. But they are wonderful. Everything is compact and walkable which is so nice. And the DLH is the only one of the three that really has grounds to speak of.

To me the nice perks of using points at the DLR are that you don't have to pay the daily resort fee or tax and you do get daily maid service. And that daily resort fee (that again, you don't pay) includes free wifi service, free USA Today (mon-fri) and health club privilidges. So that is sort of nice.

Enjoy Disneyland, its as wonderful as WDW in a unique yet similar sort of way!

Check out this helpful link: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599 Its very helpful for WDW regulars who go to DL. In fact, all of Hydroguy's links (you will see them in that link I gave you) are very helpful.

Thank you. I have not posted on the DVC planning board but I will....
Oh, Amy and Dan -- you can use your points on suites.... of course it takes alot of points. I know they are not listed but someone did tell me you can so I called member services.... Thanks again!

Oh... P.S... I went on laughingplace.com also to see what they said and someone told me the names of the towers are Sierra (Dreams), Marina (Magic), and Bonita (Wonder)....

Thanks again...

My DW and i just booked a 2BR suite at DLH for the end of February using our points. It costs us 236 points vs 192 for two adjoining rooms. We have a 3 yr old and a 19 month old and we wanted to have the seperate living area that a 2BR suite has. This is the first time we have been to DL so we hope that the rooms are as nice as i think.

Thanks for the info.... We have 3 children. 7, 4 and 14 months. I just wanted to do something different... I haven't been to Cally in probably 19 years.... Hey, I'm giving my age away!...
I was there when I was about 20 with a friend of mine visiting other friends and family.... That was the last time I have been to Disneyland. I know things have definitely changed. I just thought we can roam around and do different things in Southern Cally as opposed to just Disney. I am definitely thinking about the suites... I can't find the paper with the difference in points for us. I was looking at like 9 nights... I had my husband take 2 weeks together in June and I figured we can go when my daughter gets out of schoo. Also -- I figured it was too long of a plane ride to go for just afew days since I also have family there. We banked our points from this year into next so we would have enough but I would probably use them all up that is why I am trying to consider a connecting room but I hear you on the wanting the extra room! Sorry that my post is so long!

WHen i mentioned the points we are using it is for four nights, about 59 pts per night at DLH for a 2BR suite

We have done DLH on points a few years back and I just booked us two connecting (i hope) rooms for June 08...

I did not know about the suites being able to be booked on points, but I am going to call member services tomorrow and ask about them lol

We LOVE LOVE LOVED the DLH. The grounds are lovely and the pool was devine. The walk from DLH to the parks takes you through DTD and we enjoyed it. Didn't seem all that far because there is so much to look at, if that makes sense.

The rooms at the DLR are quite large. And they have med. size fridges in them which we really like.

I found out awhile ago about points for suites at the DLH. They do not state it but if you call member services they can tell you how many points it would cost you. Now Yakety has me thinking. I know it would be nice to have more room but is it worth the extra points. If I do regular rooms it would definitely have to be connecting! I guess I have to make a decision quick because we haven't booked anything yet. I see you said June would be your trip. That is when we are looking.... When are you going? I guess I keep debating because I know the airfare is going to kill us. I was trying to wait to see what Jet Blue has but so far they are only up to April!
I also don't know if we should do John Wayne or Long Beach airport? Alot to think about over here! :goodvibes

I know the fear of not getting connecting rooms drives me insane but so far so good. I send in a fax about a week or two before begging for connecting rooms, saying we will take the worst view if that gets us connecting lol I am so bad.

Airfare is a killer for us too. I looked at other airports but found LAX to be the cheapest and has the most nonstop flights.

When will your mom know if she is coming? If she is, I would go ahead and see what a two bedroom will run you so there is space for everyone to get away from each other...

The rate that Yakety76 posted was 59 per night in Feb, which is the same season and 95% of June.. Our standard room ran us 19 points per night.. times two, 38 points per night, and you could even get 3 standard view rooms for 57 points a night. Now I will mention our view was of the employee parking lot, but I enjoyed watching the shift change and hearing the laughter of the CM"s as they walk out to their cars, but then again that's me.

Sun-Thur Fri-Sat
Standard View 19 30

Premium View 21 34

Concierge 34 55

Another thought is find out what a One bedroom runs for you and your family then get a regular hotel for your mother.

You wouldn't need the two bedroom unless your mother was coming, so booking either 2 regular rooms OR booking he 1 bedroom might work until she decides, then just book her a regular room later on... just a thought

We are going June 11th-18th :-)

We just got back from DLH and we totally loved it. We normally stay at POR in DW and we found the DLH just as nice.

Thanks for all the advice. My daughter's last day of school is supposed to be June 11th unless they add on snow days! We live in PA now but I am from Staten Island, NY. I miss my family and I sometimes want to go home. I wanted to leave right after school but since my dad probably isn't coming, I don't think we can leave before Father's Day!.... I think it's the 15th? So, I am considering the 16th of June... I want to make a reservation so I don't get locked out of what we want but I have some more figuring out to do.
I wanted to leave out of Newark Airport and I know LAX has the most flights but alot of people are telling me it's far to travel and that we were better off going into John Wayne or Long Beach. I know Jet Blue goes into Long Beach from JFK (which I would rather not go to).... but I love Jet Blue.... It's annoying me that it's going only as far out as April! I have to configure everything together and I am getting nuts! Well, thanks again.

Just my 2 cents on the airports . . . we flew in to LAX and rented a car. The drive to DL from Hertz was about 50 minutes (9pm on Wednesday night). The ride back took 2 and 1/2 hours (from 6:30am Wednesday morning), and yes, we missed our flight (though it turned out to be a blessing in disguise: ) Go for John Wayne if you can.

I would have to agree with you on the airports... I haven't been to Cally in years and I know LA can be crazy with traffic... someone else suggested John Wayne or Long Beach but I do understand Laura saying that LAX has a variety of flights... I would love Long Beach on Jet Blue.... we shall see....

Yakety, Laura.... and to all....
Well Yakety, I know you are getting a 2 bedroom so maybe this wouldn't pertain to you. I actually have the Passporter book for Disneyland (not the newest version).... anyway, I was skimming through it. It says if someone was looking to get a 1 bedroom suite they might benefit better from 2 connecting rooms since it said something like the one bedroom is the two rooms together but minus one of the baths. There would be a very small kitchenette and a pullout sofa as opposed to beds. It would probably be more comfortable to get the connecting rooms. So Laura, I guess I will side with you to save some points. I can always put my husband in one room with my son and me, my mom and my daughter in the other. My other son who is 14 months I guess can go in either room! I still haven't booked anything... I guess I should get moving, right?

I had a convention in Anaheim a couple years ago and I flew into Long Beach because I am a major JetBlue fan and will fly with them if at all possible. I took Supershuttle to and from the hotel and it was maybe 30 minutes each way (and we were running into the beginnings of "rush hour" traffic on the way to the hotel). I spent a fair amount of time pricing various options and price-wise, the JetBlue to Long Beach/Supershuttle combo was about comparable with flying to LAX and ground transportation from there, but time-wise, it was faster. Both options were cheaper than flying into John Wayne by enough of a margin that the time "expense" was my next deciding factor...plus the fact that I just prefer JetBlue.
