I found the following at the end of an article in the Orange County Register:

...part of Tom Sawyer's Island will reopen today [April 11, 2003]. The island's bridges and some climbing areas have been closed during a long refurbishment. The entire island is scheduled to reopen in late June, [Sondra] Haley [a Disney spokesperson] said.
