When I went on space mountain at WDW, I headed straight for a store to by advil when I got off of the ride. I had such a headache and neck ache from the jerkiness of the ride. I know that DL's is smoother, but does it still jerk you around? How does the Matterhorn compare to space mountain? I really want to ride the Matterhorn because I remember it from waaaaaaaaaay back.
Thanks

DL SM is one of our favorite rides. We were so disappointed in the WDW one! We only rode it once. There wasn't even any music. Don't know if that is normal or just broken at that time. DL's is very smooth and no jerking.
I also have to say we found RnRc rather bumpy too. I wanted to like that ride and we tried it twice. Don't know what it is about the WDW roller coasters. They just are much bumpier. :confused3

I would say the Matterhorn might even be a tad bumpier than the WDW SM. We only go on it once per trip for nostalgia reasons. I try to hold myself up off the seat with my legs to reduce the bumping.

Matterhorn is REALLY jerky, like I got a couple small bruises jerky. If you really want to do it though maybe take the Advil before, there is no avoiding the jerkiness but it's a fun ride!

Just got back last week -- Space Mountain DLR is MUCH smoother than WDW's. The music can be a bit loud, though -- DS didn't want to ride it a second time...

Matterhorn is a bit jerky, but I thought it was pretty smooth for a 55-year-old coaster.

Matterhorn is very similar to WDW Space Mountain.... only jerkier.

And to the above poster concerning music, there is no on board music on WDW Space Mountain.

Oh, good to know. Thanks. We thought it was really lacking without the music! I can't believe they wouldn't have music! It seems like a simple thing to do that adds so much to the ride!

Thanks, maybe I will try space mountain but skip the matterhorn. If I do the matterhorn, I will take advil BEFORE I go on it! Thanks for the suggestion.

I almost got sic on RnRc but not from the ride itself. I was sitting in the middle or towards the back of the cars and when we were doing the loop, somebody's spit landed on my lips. With the force of the ride, I couldn't wipe it off and the only thing that I could think about was how gross i felt! Haven't been on it since!

Oh no, that is horrid, I would have a hard time going back on the ride too.

We loved RNRC, but think WDW SM and Matterhorn are way too jerky. Love DL SM.

wow what a freak disgusting misfortune to be hit with someone's spit! But maybe it was just their leaking water bottle (slightly better).

I agree that WDW SM is too jerky and the seating much harder to get in and out of. I also hate the head smashing I always experience on RcRC. And I find Matterhorn nauseatingly bumpy. My fave is DL SM, especially Ghost Galaxy. But I still ride them all each visit! :goodvibes:thumbsup2

I'd say Space Mountain in WDW is more intense than any ride in DL. There's just so many dips.
The one in DL is pretty smooth. A lot smoother than Matterhorn and probably even Big Thunder.

Your memories don't match what it is now. They changed the bobsleds so that it felt more like a bobsled (because I'm sure that's what every guest asked for...please make it MORE bumpy?). It's nearly torture now. I'm short and now I'm pretty small, and it's just so painful.

I don't like WDW's Space, but I would go on it over Matterhorn.

Remember that Disney's First Aid stations are staffed with real RNs, and they have free pain relievers and the Best Ice-Packs Ever.

Nice to know, hopefully I will not need them. Everybody has convinced me to go on space mountain and skip the Matterhorn.

Right there! I get bad headaches from the neck being jostled. I felt a big one coming on the last time I rode it at MK/WDW. But the one at DL is soooo smoooooth. I rode it several times with no problems. The only thing that the WDW version has that I miss is a good high speed drop right in the middle. DL doesn't have that "leave your stomach" behind feeling of that drop, so some people may like it. I miss it. But not the headache.

Good call! I'm pretty sure I read where the Matterhorn was outlawed in Geneva.

I used to ride Matterhorn each trip for nostalgia. After my last ride in August I think I'm done. I had a headache going in and the ride was just painful. Didn't even notice that WDW space is that much bumpier than DL version so Matterhorn is just that bumpy.

Glad I'm not the only one. I had a very hard time on Space Mountain in DWR. Scary and bumpy and I didn't feel buckled in enough. Of I remember correctly, they just had a lap bar. Yikes!

Wow, I just find it crazy that the WDW version doesn't have music! I agree that music adds SO MUCH to the ride, I find that really strange.
Also, random trivia, Michael Giacchino composed the music for DL SM! (he did most Pixar movies, like Up, and The Incredibles, and basically all the good music, as well as the TV show Lost!) He's one of my favorite composers!

I always pop some aspirin of some sort before I go on rides. That way I prevent any headaches or pain that the rides can inflict. :)
