My friend and I are surprising our DD's with at trip to LA/Hollywood for their 16th birthdays next year; we plan to go right after school gets out (we are both teachers) in June. Around the 5th maybe?

DF is from CA, but I have never been there. Can anyone tell me what the weather is like in early June and how crowds, etc. are at DL? Anything special I should know? I have been to WDW many times, but I've never even set foot in CA!

Would anyone be willing to send me a map/brochures from DL? I'd be happy to pass along the favor when I go.

We'll probably have 5 full days in CA; one day at DL. Any other suggestions on what to do would be welcome. I know we'll spend at least one day doing the whole "Hollywood"/ Beverly Hills thing, but I really am clueless! :confused3

Thanks for any help you can give! :thumbsup2

We were just there on June 4th and 5th and the weather was interesting but unusual. It rained north of Anaheim but not a drop anywhere in the parks. I wore jeans and a T shirt and felt completely comfortable and just threw on a long sleeve in the evening. Usually, the weather is typical So. Cal weather.

Check the hours as it gets closer to your trip because the park will close early for Grad Night parties. It closed early on June 4th but we chose that evening to walk around Downtown Disney and eat at the Napa Rose(highly recommend it).

This is a great forum for questions and there are others out there that will provide more details on the Beverly Hills area. Have fun fellow teachers!

southern california is kind of known for it's "june gloom", and often june days are overcast with milder temps. however, the sun can pop out at any time, but generally, june has quite a few overcast days.

as far as crowds are concerned, early june will probably not be crazy-crowded. on the other hand, many people who have been posting to the disboards over the last year (myself included) have found higher-than-expected crowds at times of the year when it was generally thought that crowds would be substantially lighter. two things to keep in mind during june are the grad nites (which won't really increase crowds, but they do affect the hours that the parks are open), and the days leading up to AP's getting blocked out for the summer (althought that appeared to have occurred just this past week this year, so maybe around the 5th won't be quite so affected). when we had AP's we used to do the same thing....went as much as we could before being blocked out for the summer, lol.

i'm going to DLR in september, and would be happy to grab an extra map for you if nobody here is able to get you one any sooner than that. but somebody will probably offer to get you one before then. people here are nice! :thumbsup2

i (personally) wouldn't schedule more than one day for the hollywood/beverly hills thing. hollywood is so scuzzy, you probably won't want to be there long, lol. i guess it's worth saying "i've been there", and the stars on the sidewalk are kind of fun, but it really is a very dirty area, so don't be surprised now that i've told you, lol! beverly hills probably won't keep you busy for long, either.

there are lots of fantastic places in the L.A. area, but you'll have to remember that it's a very old, very populated city, and a lot of it's best areas are kind of dirty. for instance, chinatown and olvera street. personally, i'd much rather visit either of these two places than hollywood. but that's just me. (i grew up not far away, and my dad was an L.A. native, so we spent a lot of time there).

there's also the Griffith Observatory, which is essentially, the best observatory in the country (and totally free to visit!), and other amusement parks like Knott's Berry Farm and Magic Mountain (although MM is a great park, it's also kind of scuzzy, so keep that in mind before making any decisions).

you might want to leave a day for the beach. although, ask around for which beaches in the area are nicest (i'm not too familiar with the beaches south of redondo), because some southern california beaches are super scuzzy, ICK.

being a southern california native, having spent 30 years there, and also having had AP's to DLR for 2 of those years...i'd suggest leaving 2 days for DLR, and only 3 for the other stuff.....none of it is as good, trust me!!! :rotfl:

hope that helps!

Here are monthly weather averages:

Crowds are usually moderate early June. It is close to being off-season. Watch out for reduced entertainment:

Yes, several. See this thread which discusses June issues including grad nights:

Best I can do is electronic:

Well, I can't really compete with Hydroguy, but I will agree that early june is manageable. I just went the 5th through the 10th. It was a great time.

Thanks everyone!:thumbsup2

Mugglemomma--no one has offered to send a map yet, so if you are still willing I will send you my address now or later, whichever you prefer. THANK YOU!

We are also planning an early June Disneyland trip. After 20+ visits to Disney World I am finding that it is much more difficult to plan a DL trip especially this far in advance. I have a really hard time waiting and I love planning so this is proving to be very difficult!!! I think I must have OCD!! :rotfl:

hahaha JOIIINNN USSSS Soupermom!!!

Also going in Early june. Booked from 4th through 11th. We used to go during our Spring Breaks, but it started getting crowded!

When will they post the grad nights/AP blockout dates for next June?
Don't know about grad nights. Early June you can pretty much count on Thursday night being a grad night.

I have never had an AP, but I seem to see the AP blockouts for the year around the first of the year.
