DL Fastpass Enforcement Beginning June 15th?

Interesting discussion. I personally don't consider fastpass times to be a hard and fast "rule" compared to something like, say, a speed limit. I compare it more to something like checking-in early to a hotel. All hotels have stated check-in times but many times for one reason or another I've had to ask if I could check-in a few hours early and no hotel has ever refused to accommodate me if they had a room available. Based on my experience this seems to be standard policy with almost all hotels.

Now, one might argue it's being shady because I could be getting more hours in the room while paying the same daily rate, but if it's hotel policy then I don't think I should feel guilty about doing it.

Similarly, if it's Disneyland's policy to accept late Fastpass returns I don't think anyone should be made to feel guilty for taking them up on it.

Sheetz! This is a great way to describe it. I was having a hard time expressing my thoughts on it...but this really sums it up perfectly!:thumbsup2

There are rules and then there are "rules". KWIM?

This is the sentiment that is interesting to me. I removed the s/n because I believe it represents the view of many here on DIS. I am curious (from anyone, not just the poster of this comment) why the FP return time is a policy that is not important to follow, but other rules are? Do we get to pick and choose which rules we follow now, as long as a CM doesn't enforce it --- and if s/he does we will stand there and tell them they are wrong? Are there other rules you (general you) choose to ignore?

Interested...

We mostly use the FPs during the return time but have no problem using them after. Like the other poster, I'm a rule follower by nature but have no problem disregarding the end-time on the FP. The reason for that, multiple CM's have told me to ignore it. Whether it be because a ride broke down or we were just making chit-chat, I have been told on multiple occasions by multiple CMs to just ignore the end-time.

This is not the first thing that Disney has in print that they do not follow (no outside food in the park, for example). My thought is maybe they originally designed the FP system to use the end-time and then for whatever reason, decided it wasn't needed. Maybe it was easier to just leave the FP the way it is than to change all the software to remove the end-time (plus that would leave the option open to enforce it at a later day). There is certainly no harm in having the end-time left on the FP's but it would be a major pain to remove it (and an even bigger pain to put it back at a later date).

Whatever their reason, Disney has made the decision not to enforce it and have instructed their CMs to ignore it. And CM's have shared this information freely with the guests. So I feel no need to enforce a rule that Disney has decided does not need to be enforced. If they change their position and start enforcing it, then we will do the same. :thumbsup2

How many FP's can you hold at one time? Can they overlap? Will they let you have more than one? I've only gotten FP's a couple of times, I don't usually get them but since I will be there next week after Cars Land opens I know that I will have pick them up.

We are from out of town and visit once every two years or so. We use the fast pass system to our advantage to get the most out of our vacation. We collect as many fast passes as possible throughout the day while hitting as many rides as possible and then after dinner, use them to enjoy the evening. Over the years I have noticed that the evenings are far more crowded during the week and it becomes frustrating to spend all that cash on tickets, hotel, food etc, to stand in line all evening. I place no blame anywhere, it is what it is. I really haven't noticed the fast pass lines being so long that it effects the standby lines all that much. We shall see how this tactic works during the Thanksgiving week holiday. I hear it will be crazy busy during that week.

yes you can have more than one FP at a time...you can collect your second FP after the window time has expired on your first...and so on.
It is printed on the FP when you can get your next one...

I am one of those immoral rules breaker's that use fast pass, at times, past the time.

I realize that really, I am evil beyond compare, and must, and should be forever banned from the Disney parks......

Actually I am none of those things, I am however a park guest who does operate within the park as Disney allowes me too. Under their policys that can and do change as they see fit.

As of right now, to do allow guests to enter during mm more then once during your stay if you are staying at one of the resort hotels. They will tell you that you are allowed ONLY ONE mm per stay, but, they do allow you multipal entry's once you arrive! Go figure :confused3 So who is in the wrong on that one? Me, for using the mm more the once, or Disney because they told me I could?

I also at times use my fast pass, past it's printed time, and guess what! I am not breaking a rule I am operating within the park as Disney allowes me too at this time, just like with their MM policy at this time.

Now, if you want to call me an evil, and dispeciable rule breaker for doing things that Disney allowes, within their park, which they could change at anytime. Feel free, I am good with that.

I LOVE the early hotel check-in analogy! That is a great way of expressing it.
We've always used Fastpasses and coupled them with child swap to double their impact. But now I'm wondering if that is "against the rules" as well?
Let me explain. For example, we'll go with another family and the dads will get FPs for Space Mountain and the moms get them for Star Tours. Then when the dads get in the FP line for Space, they get child swap tickets while we take the kids on Buzz or Astro Orbiter.
We've never had a problem with this, the cast members are all super helpful and occasionally will ask to see the kids, but that is always easy to do. So what do you think, is this OK? Or is child swap like FP in that a lot of people don't realize they can use it?

Your post follows my sentiments exactly! I have always appreciated that Disney is classy enough not to question where I purchased my half finished bottle of Diet Coke when I enter a park. I don't have to feel like a criminal or explain myself for having it when I enter and I don't have to try to chug it down or throw it away. Disney does not nit pick over little things when they figure I am spending a small fortune to spend my vacation there. These things are what keep me coming back.
The same goes for the fastpass system. I went to WDW 3 times and followed the DIS most of those years before I realized I could use FP after the end time on the tickets. Once I found that out, it became clear to me why Disney allowed late use of FP. If they didn't they would make people plead their case every time a ride broke down or a dining experience took longer than expected. I would imagine most people would get more aggravated by such delays, causing negative feelings towards Disney. It would also inevitably lead to people fabricating excuses and CMs having to decide which are real and which are made up. I'm not sure how things are going in WDW since they started enforcing the end times as I am planning a DL trip and haven't been over on those boards lately. However, in my opinion, allowing people to use the FP with flexibility makes Disney feel like more of a high-end, customer friendly organization to me. I feel like I am really on vacation at a first class resort, not at my local amusement park.:thumbsup2

I must say this has turned into quite the interesting conversation of human behavior I had not anticipated. It is actually quite refreshing lol

It certainly is interesting to see the judgements cast by others...even here on the DIS boards.:rolleyes1

Another poster said that they are using the FP system as Disney allows them to use it. And this is it exactly. If Disney didn't want us to take advantage of the FP's, then they would enforce the return times. Disney knows FULL well what we are all doing. Just like they know when CM's inspect my contraband (ie. my stroller cooler) before entering the parks.

I wonder if those who cast judgement are so innocent themselves? Likely not as they eat their outside food & beverages & attempt to resell their Toontown Morning Madness tix. And yes...folks are all over ebay doing this!;)

I completely agree. I only get to visit DL maybe every 5-6 years and I rely on non-enforcement of FP to get the most out of my time at the parks. It makes the trip so much more enjoyable and gives me a sense that we got to do all we wanted to do, ride all the rides we wanted to ride and NOT stand in a line for an hour. Knowledge is power so for those who have the knowledge of FP use then more power to you! I know for certain that I would never be able to have as much fun in my short time in the parks if they start to enforce FP times.

LT :)

Moving this over to the Community Board.

Please remember to act respectful, regardless of what you really think. That way we won't have to lose the thread.

Thanks.

All over ebay? I don't see anyone selling these things nor do I see completed listings for them.

As for Fast Pass rule breakers, shame on you for being the scum of the earth. Oh and thanks for the tips on how to collect them early in the day and as you leave the park in the afternoon. :rotfl:

Human behavior is funny. Like I would be miffed if I got a ticket for going 3 mph over the speed limit, but I would feel stupid for getting a ticket going 15 mph over the speed limit. But in the end the limit is the limit right?

The FP return time is not a rule. Ask any cast member and they will tell it you to come any time after the return time and you are ok. If the rule was you have to come in the return window, then all the CM should probably be fired.

Anyways, this thread kind of put me at ease. I saw one post saying that the FP were going to start being enforced, but I think you all are right - if DL was going to enforce, we would have seen something in advance.

I must have missed it but do we know why WDW is enforcing?
Thanks

Honestly, the official rule is that you must use within the time window. Allowing you to use it after the time frame is an exception to the rule that is up to the CM accepting the FP.

Most will allow you to do so; however, depending on how busy the attraction is, they may not let you do this. For example, I would expect RSR to not allow you to use late FPs for a while.
