We have returned from our first trip to DL. It was a wonderful trip and you could really feel Walt's presence.

In talking to cast members something became very apparent - a dislike of WDW. Anytime we would mention that word, people would make a face or strange comment. Keep in mind that we were always complementary of DL, never derogatory. One person told us that WDW is like the big brother that picks on them.
What's the deal?

It think the analogy is off a little. Since DL came first, it is the older sibling. WDW is the younger sibling that gets all of the attention and is spoiled. Obviously part of the reason it is "spoiled" and gets more attention is because it is bigger. Unless Disney is willing to fork out BILLIONS to buy up more property around DL, they have just about got as big as they are going to get and it isn't ever going to be size as WDW. There will always be sibling rivalry between the two parks.

My experience has been quite different. Most CM's I've chatted with have been very complimentary of the other park and some that have never been are hoping to someday. I often wear my WDW shirts and hoodies to DL (and DL shirts and hoodies to WDW) and it starts the conversations.

I think you hit it on the head there. I think there can, but not always, be a tendency for DLR people/CM to be jealous of all the attention WDW gets. They are both great parks, but DLR is landlocked and harder to expand.

I have not heard any of this myself so I have no direct knowledge. If it is in fact true I would guess it has more to do with corporate initiatives that are trying to harmonize WDW and DLR rather than WDW itself. This has reportedly led to a loss of perks for DLR CMs. If true who knows?

Same here. We got into a LONG conversation (to the detriment of our touring plan!) with 3 CMs at a ride info board, about WDW. One CM had been there, one was planning a trip, and the other was just jealous. The CM that had been there felt the same as us; it's superfun, but he liked coming "home" to DL. And that isn't negative to WDW, it's just how we feel.

I've worn my WDW sweatshirt (and my Universal sweatshirt!) to Disneyland quite a few times, and I have never once gotten any sort of negative comment. And I talk with CMs quite a bit (ask my DH and DS). :)
