We are in the very early stages of planning a possible trip in the early spring to DL. We didn't look into this last year, but we're curious about the meal plans. If you've used one let us know, we're a family of 5. What plans are available, the costs and do you think you got value for that?

I haven't used the meal plan, but I researched it some, and from everything I've read the plan does not save you money it's just a convinence factor of having your meals pre paid. I had trouble finding exactly which reasturants you could use the vouchers at inside DL. Hopefully someone who has actually used the plan will have some feedback.

Meal plans not worth it. You get vouchres worth a certain amount and if you don't use the full value, from what I understand, you don't get change. So really you could end up loosing money. And if you go over the value you will be asked to pay the difference.

Funny seeing you over here!!! We have used the meal plan on our two most recent trips and we like it. We are getting it again for Sept. Although it saves very little money (although it does save some....) we use it for budgeting and ease of use. You will never lose money if you are logical. If your total bill is $6.50, don't use a $10 voucher, use a five and some cash. You can use the cash value vouchers in any combination and (unless I am not remembering correctly) the character meal vouchers include gratuity. If you like having the bulk of your budget set prior to going and take a bit to preplan your meals, it is a good thing. I did a trip report on my views on it a year or so ago. I'll add it if I find it!

Also, last year we did not have to pay anything out of pocket for Goofy's kitchen, the voucher covered the whole cost.

Thanks for the review! I'm still a little unclear how the Breakfast in the Park part works. Are they specific vouchers for that so you have to use them at those two places?

Most plans come with two types of breakfast vouchers. One being a character breakfast. It can be used at the Plaza with Minnie (in the park), Lilo and stitch at PP, Goofys at DLH, or storytellers at GC. Its valued at about $25. It covers the meal and tax, and tip. I recomend you make PS for your character meal. The other voucher "breakfast in the park" is valued at a little over $8. It can be used for breakfast at Carnation cafe on main street, Riverbell terrace or the Buzz place in tomorrow land. Its just about enough for the meal and drink. It can also be applied toward a character meal, but you would need to pay the difference.

Hey Jill, thanks.

It's true, right now I'm spending a lot of time on the cruise boards, as were only 5 weeks out from our next cruise. But I'm already iching to plan our next trip. This information will be very, very helpful. Being closer to WDW, we know the meal plan there is usually a great value, but they have so many more choices. We found last year when we went to DL, we spent a good deal of money on food. So it would be cool to have that locked down a little tighter and possibly cheaper.

I'm not totally sure if we'll end up in CA or Fl, but I hope to get us one of those places. Though I really want to get back to DL. For some reason we are kind of drawn there, not that we don't thoroughly enjoy WDW, there's just something extra special about the original.

Thanks again, you're always a great source of support and information.

As much as I love WDW, I feel the same way!! Last year was DH's first to DLR in about 20 years and he wasn't all that excited to go. He was certainly singing a different tune when we got there. We both just love it! Have fun whatever you decide to do!

And have fun on your cruise! I think DCL and DLR are tied for my favorite Disney destinations!
