DL and Food Intolerance

So we have been to WDW 8 times with special diet needs and have not been let down. We have also done DCL and Vero Beach, but scrolling through the restaurant menus it looks as though it will be much more difficult to find food at DL?!?

With WDW I can basically find a dairy-free dish with no modifications that I can eat just on the menu and then we only need to accommodate DD. But looking at the DL menus (TS and CS) it looks like there will be issues as most everything has a component that is likely to have dairy involved.

I am sure I am just missing something and figure it will all be fine, but the diet needs of the girls in our family are a big reason for our devotion to Disney.

Any no-dairy Dl folks out there that can help?

I just wanted to welcome you to the DL board and let you know that this topic has come up before. People who know about this topic (which is NOT me), will reply. :goodvibes

Have a great Disney night,

Thanks! :goodvibes

I am currently reading through some blogs about it, but wanted the DIS opinion! I figured in CA it would be even easier then FL...

To clarify, DD and I are very lactose intolerant... the pills do not help. May contain is about the best we can do, not even butter which is very low in lactose...

Disneyland is really good about this stuff if you ask, but because they don't have as many dining options as WDW, you'll have to order off-menu and/or speak to the chef if it's a table service restaurant. Often the chef will come out and talk to you about what you can and cannot have and will create a special dish for you. Don't feel bad about doing it - they are happy to oblige. Also, you can stop by City Hall and get lists of ingredients for the items at the restaurants should you have any doubts.

Here's a post from last year: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2685724&highlight=dairy+free

This is a little off topic and may sound strange but....I think the chef's are very happy to help out people with special dietary needs because it does let them create something fresh and new besides just the regular stuff off the menu. Although, maybe I'm wrong, the only restaurant I've worked in was Burger King.

DLR is very accomodating regarding food allergies and sensitivities. Call the Disney Dine Line (714-781-DINE) to ask about menus. They will make a note on any reservations you make and have the chef call you back. Emphasize how serious your intolerance is so that the CM makes sure the chef contacts you. (Sometimes you don't get a call back, but the chef will come to your table to discuss the menu with you.) You can email Guest Services to ask for a list of menu ingredients. My family has a stew of food allergies, sensitivities, and serious lactose intolerance. We've had very good experiences eating at Napa Rose and are looking forward to trying Carthay Circle Restaurant. Someone on another board said that the chef at their on property hotel went so far as to stock soy milk just for her family. But you won't get that kind of service if you don't ask, so be proactive and know that DLR wants to work with you!

Are you sure about the list at City Hall? Unless something has changed very recently, they don't have any list of ingredients for items at all the restaurants. They do have binders at the restaurants where you can look up ingredients in a specific meal, but the only list that I am aware of at City Hall is for gluten-free dining. Unless, it's very new, they don't have a list for dairy-free/lactose intolerance. :)

There USED to be a list if all dairy-free items. That is now gone, but I was under the impression that they still had a big binder with the ingredients there, but sounds like you're saying it's just at the individual restaurants then?
