DW and I are planning to run the 2014 DL Half next year and complete the C2C Challenge (we're also running the WDW Half in January 2014) for our 15th anniversary. I know registration hasn't opened yet and I haven't seen the dates released, but I had a few generic questions to ask the board as I'm trying to gauge our costs involved for this.

Does Disney offer any discounts for runners on rooms/park tickets? I know the offers from RunDisney for the WDW Marathon Weekend are usually more expensive than ordering direct through other means, but I didn't know if it was different for that race.

What is the estimated cost for running the Dumbo Double Dare challenge? I'm probably going to run that, but DW is only doing the half.

When does Disney generally release the dates for the race?

Is there any advantage to staying at a Disney-owned resort vs. another resort nearby for their races? I've been to Disneyland twice and understand the layout of the area fairly well. I also know that the Disney resorts are quite a bit more than some of the other comparable resorts that are in walking distance. If it's half the money to stay at a nice nearby resort as say the Grand Floridian, I'd rather walk the 1/4 mile to the parks/Downtown Disney unless there is some other perk I'm missing. I also know about the early admission to the parks for guests staying at the resorts but that won't be beneficial to us since we'll be at the races both Saturday and Sunday and won't arrive until mid-day Friday.

The RunDisney page for the 2013 DL 1/2 is still up, so you may be able to get some answers there.

I don't think there are any DL discounts, just travel operators listed to do packages. (There certainly weren't discounts when I did it in 2010) The price for the DDD was $280-320 depending on how soon you registered--although I expect it sold out well before any of the price increases kicked in!

I don't think that there is any huge advantage to staying onsite. It's not like WDW where you feel like you're tucked away from the world. DL is such an urban setting. I stayed offsite at a Residence Inn and was able to walk and shuttle over there quickly. And the prices are so much better offsite.

As for ticket discounts, check out mousesavers for recommendations. I think it's for ARES travel. I ended up getting mine elsewhere--I think through a corporate link with Tickets at Work.

The final race instructions listed the 2014 dates as August 29-31. So same timeframe--weekend before Labor Day

Hope this helps!

I do believe there was a Disney hotel discout offered by Get Travel, the travel company runDisney uses for the Disneyland races. I don't think it was much, but it was something.

Also, there was a park tickets discount offered through them as well.
I don't know the pricing of the other tickets, but a 5 day park hopper through them was $250 vs. $300 at the gates.

Hope that helps~ you can always contact them to see what the discount was that was offered. Of course, most likely, everything goes up, so next year pricing will be different, but it may give you an idea of what kind of discounts they offer.

I've looked and a few places (including Disney's site) already have resort pricing for that weekend so I've got something to work with at least. Since I've been a few times, I know a few of the off-site hotels that are close by.

I'd love to stay at the Grand Californian again, but DW has a thing about spending too much for a hotel room where we'll barely be in while at the parks. :sad2:
