hi

the so and so next door painted the side of our fence facing him. he also got the stuff he used (bright orange) all over our brand new (expencive) patio (big blotches). i cant get it off. does anyone have any tips for doing this. i have used washing up liquid and scrubbed my hardest. i have a pressure washer but have yet to try it but im not convinced it will work as the stones are porous and it has kinda soaked in. he didnt let me know he was going to paint it so i couldnt put anything down. im meant to be getting it sealed in a few weeks after it has settled and dont want to get big orange patches sealed in.

off topic slightly. im sure because its our fence and its a good inch and a half over the boundry line (on our side) that they have to ask permission before touching it at all. is that true? not that i would really be that fussy im just upset about my new garden.

any advise would be great

love

I'm sorry to hear about your patio - what material is it- paving slabs or is it decking. If its concrete try a little turps or white spirit and an old scrubbing brush - not to sure what to suggest if its decking other than if you have some of the decking spare to try using paint remover on it and see what the result is before actually trying in out on the patio. It isn't easy having inconsiderate neighbours - we have dreadful neighbours one side - very noisy, bbq whilst washing is out - how long does it take to knock and say were having a bbq if you want to get your washing in. They recently had some building work done and on more than one occasion found their builder ( who was a kosovan refugee, driving a van with out of date road tax!!) walking all over our garden after removing the fence panels - and they did not ask our permission - we have a dispute with them at the moment as they have errected a new fence whilst we were on holiday well onto our side of the boundary and again have trampled all over my plants etc ruining most of them and even ripping out my Clematis that was climbing up the fence - which is actually ours!!! anyway not theirs - and then the other evening had the cheek to band on the wall at 9.15 and shouted at my kids to 'f*****g shut up they were trying to sleep' - the ironic thing was it was their kids making the noise our kids were sitting with us playing cards at the time!!!

Hope you get it all sorted - let me know!!!

Paint nitromors paint and varnish remover on it and then scrape it off, would work even if its wood underneath.
from someone who has spent ALL bank holiday decorating!!!!

Get them to do it!! I should think that you're right, if it's your fence they have no business painting it anyway, especially not without permission. And then spoiling your patio.... I would be livid!

I know that you can get special patio cleaning fluids. Re painting their side of the fence I'm not sure what the law actually is but everybody does it. We painted our side of our neighbours' fence last summer and, to be honest it didn't enter my head to actually ask permission. Could be worth checking with Citizens Advice.

Lucy Love try calling your local council and ask them for the number for the land registry for your area. If you quote to them your post code they will be able to bring up a plan of your street. If you explain which fence you are talking about they will see into whose garden the little T falls into. If it's yours then the fence is your property and hence your boundary. My advice if you do choose to say anything is be as polite and friendly as possible as any problems with neighbours this day and age have to be reported when you come to see your house.
As for getting the paint off I'm sorry I don't know. You could always contact the manufacturer if it is a concrerte slab.
Snookhams what horrid neighbours you have. If anybody shouted like that at my walls my DH would be straight round there. As for me I would do something quite nasty - let's just say I have a dog :dog2: :rotfl:

hi

sorry to hear about your neighbours snook

mine are nice just a bit thoughtless i think.. there is no shouting or swearing

the area where the spillage occured is on patio. its looking alot better and i think some patio cleaner might do the trick.

clare d the fence was bought by us last week and is a good inch and a half over the boundry. its deffo ours.

i am still angry though and next time i see the man im going to mention it politely.

thanks and ill let you know how i get on
