I have a wooden trash can that I want to paint and then distress. Saw one at a craft show and fell in love with it. I'm planning on using a green paint. Can anyone offer advice on what/how this is done?

Thanks!!

On "Changing Rooms" (the BBC version of Trading Spaces) they do something where they paint an undercoat (eg green). Then they rub a candle or other wax over the areas that would ordinarily take the most wear. Then paint with the top coat (eg brown). The places with the wax don't take as much, if any, of the 2nd coat of paint. They also use a fine steel wool to rub the edges that would take wear.

Is that the type of distress you're talking about? Or do you mean the type with dents?

I was looking for just the paint, not dents in the wood. Right now the wood is a natural pine. So, if I would use wax on different areas before I paint it, then paint it one color and then use steelwool on spots it should turn out. Not sure if I want to do two colors, unless I can find two different ones that I like together.

Thanks for the info. Just wasn't sure what to use. Guess now that you've helped me out, I'll be a busy bee.
