My kids left the gas can outside that we use for the lawnmower. Of course, it rained the other day so even though it was under a small table, I'm afraid that water got in it and I don't want to put it in the lawnmower now. How do I dispose of the gas in the can?

I leave my gas cans outside all the time. They get rained on constantly. Never had an issue using the gas.

If the lid was on, the gas is fine. Gas cans are more or less designed to be left outside and get rained on.

No the lid was not on that's why I think water got in. Won't using watered down gas in my lawnmower affect the mower?

Water is heavier than gas. That's why the tube in the tank attached to the pump at gas stations does not go to the bottom of the tank. The end is several feet from the bottom. Don't know the exact distance.

Pour the gas into a clear glass container. Let it sit for a few days. The water will separate from the gas and settle to the bottom of the container. You can see it. Carefully siphon the gas out. Be sure the siphon line does not get into the water.

Check with your municipality? Our county has recycling stations that have a place to drop off hazardous waste - oil, paint, gas, pesticides, etc.

Our city has frequent Hazardous Waste Collection days. The city website lists the dates and locations. You just have to show ID to prove that you reside in the city limits and you can drop off stuff for free. They take gasoline, paint thinner, pool chemicals, pesticides, paint, etc.
