Disposable Luggage?

I wasn't sure where to put this question, but figured since it most applied to people with young kids this would be the best spot.

My question is this...

Has anyone ever used a cardboard box (or something like that) as "checked luggage?"

We are flying Southwest with a 4 year old and infant twins. We will have an entire suitcase worth of diapers, wipes, formula, and other consumable items. I could easily put them in a suitcase, but since we are flying SW we will need to deal with our own luggage on the return flight (Magical Express luggage service not available). I would rather not have an empty suitcase to deal with along with our real suitcase, 2 strollers, 3 kids, etc.

I could ship the box down I suppose. Just wondering if a taped up box could be used as luggage for Southwest and Magical Express.

I should add...we are not souveneir people so we wouldn't benefit from having an extra bag for the return.

I'm a former flight attendant and I can attest that people do it all the time. Just make sure it meets the size requirements l x w x h for checked luggage and is not overweight and it should be free. Just make sure to tape it up GOOD because it WILL be thrown, and shoved and what not.

What about using a soft sided bag, and then when it is empty, put it inside of your bag?
DH does that all the time, but reverse. He likes to bring home beer from everywhere he travels, so when he is leaving, he throws his big gym bag into his checked bag, and it comes home full.

should be fine. I remember years ago Delta had what they called "checked baggage boxes". We used to use these to ship home stuff that wouldn't fit in our suitcases. Sometimes the box was all the dirty laundry. Other times our coats.

I also use two duffle bags and todd them in the suitcase except mine go down empy in suitcase and get checked on the way home with all the stuff we buy in disney that we don;t need

You may want to check the Transportation board. RAC and BAGS is available for SW flights from many WDW resorts now.
