Update - Wow, some good points and a lot of unsolicitated feedback. I decided the best option for us is ultra cheap flip flops, not disposables.
  • With 10+ trips to Orlando since 2014 (in my signature) I am aware it rains and plan for that, note that I mentioned ponchos. I also have other contingencies which I didn't think were relevant to my question specifically about riding Kali.
  • We are a closed toe shoe family.
  • We are a family of 5 that typically travels with grandparents. Solutions that may be simple for 1-2 people can be impractical and cost prohibitive for larger groups.

Despite 7+ trips to WDW we have never ridden Kali because we don't want to get soaked and as the family pack mule I have not wanted to bring along extra shoes. For our upcoming trip in July I will have ponchos with me everyday and I would be willing to bring disposable flip flops like the ones you get for a pedicure. Amazon has a 24 pack for $3!!!
Would these types of "shoes" be allowed?
How much are the small lockers at the front of the park running these days?
Could I leave them in the Kali lockers for an extended period of time (all day)?
Thanks!

Just my opinion but that seems a bit wasteful. If you're willing to get a locker anyway why not just bring normal flip flops and a towel? They can be dried off in a minute and put back into the locker for the day. Or put grocery bags over your feet?

I don't know about "allowed" or the locker question, but I'd look into those cheap Old Navy style flip flops. They aren't technically disposable but you can find them for a couple bucks where I wouldn't mind throwing them away. I can barely walk in those pedicure flip flops lol.

I agree with above poster and look into Old Navy (or Walmart/Target, etc). Those pedicure flip flops have zero traction, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone has an issue walking on wet pavement or stepping into the ride - plus they lend to more of a shuffle walk than actual walking.

I'm not sure those disposable ones would even qualify as appropriate footwear for Disney. If they're the ones I'm thinking of they're basically a piece of flimsy foam shaped to a foot.

Per the Disney website, 'Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. ' I don't believe the ones mentioned above that are created for pedicures, etc qualifiy as 'shoes'.

I, too, am the family backpack carrier. When we get in line for Kali, I remove my shoes and put them in the backpack. I put on flip flops. Then, I take a poncho out for anyone who doesn't want to get wet. Our ponchos hang below our knees. Once on the ride, I put the backpack underneath the poncho.

Just in case you're not aware, there are free lockers near the entrance to Kali. However, you can't leave your stuff there all day. There's a limit--I think 2 hours the last time I. used them.

OP, since you're going in July, you'll probably dry off pretty quickly after the ride anyway, since it's hot. Wear Crocs or another water-okay shoe. I wear my Teva sandals every day anyway and they dry off quickly.

Lockers at kali have a max time of two hours which is more than enough time to get through a long line, ride and grab your bag. It's not for all day use. How it's enforced, no clue so it's a gamble I suppose. As far as footwear, those pedi flip flops are a total waste imo and while someone may say nothing to you, you may also get flagged, you just never know with Disney.

I'd wear your shoes. It's July, it's hot, you may get wet but you dry pretty fast. You won't be wet all day. I've ridden Kali dozens of times in the summer and never have I felt like I couldn't carry on from being sopping wet. I realize some people have varying tolerances for being wet but if you're already carrying a back pack, a small set of rubber flip flops won't take up much space if you're worried about wet feet.

However, carrying extra shoes is "extra" and I realize some people will bring everything into their park bags, more power to them. I used to be the family sherpa when my kids were younger but now we're bare bones, military style and if you want it, you carry it. But the pedi shoes, I'd pass on that.

What's your contingency plan for the daily rain? You need shoes that can handle a soaking and still be safe to walk around in.

You should ideally have several pairs of shoes for a July trip. I'd make sure at least one pair is a high support waterproof shoe with good traction. My kids wear Crocs clogs. I wear Keens. I also bring FitFlops and a pair of mesh Skechers Go Walks that are lightweight and breathable and can get fully wet. I bring my running shoes, but only wear them when there is no chance of rain that day.

Ponchos won't keep your feet dry in a pop up downpour, and those happen FREQUENTLY in the summer months.

I'm wearing my Keens on AK day, specifically for Kali River.

Other than just wearing shoes that can get wet, this is the exact method I use and it works great for keeping my park bag and its contents dry.

Good choice on the $2 flip flops! I think pedicure flip flops might be destroyed by the time you get through the line to the raft. They are not designed to be worn on rough hot pavement.

You do realize in the Summer it rains just about every day... and you are worried about a ride that barely gets you wet?

The last time I was at Universal in August I went on the water rides several times just to get wet. It's freaking hot.. getting wet is a bonus.

It’s the rainy season in FL. Most days, except the last 2, we’ve been having downpours in the afternoon (they usually don’t last long) and again in the evening (again don’t last long, usually.) June 17 was a different story, it stormed off and on all day.

I wouldn’t trust pedicure flips to count as shoes or to hold up to the hot walkways.

I had to walk a block on the sidewalk in those pedicure flipflops one time (pedicure took forever, nails wet, late for restaurant meetup). It was awful. Not recommended!

You're going in July. Why not just wear Keens or Tevas or Chacos or choose your brand of supportive sandals that can get wet? It rains at some point almost every day in July, and cheap flip flops do not provide traction or support if your feet get wet from a downpour. And then you only need one pair of shoes. If you get a good pair of sandals, they are just as supportive as a pair of sneakers.

Yeah, that's the dis! I have Keen sandals but would not want to walk all day in them, strictly socks and sneakers for me. I haven't been on Kali in years because (at least in the past) you come off totally drenched but we definitely wore flip flops on it when we rode, and I believe bathing suits with quick drying shorts. Walking around all day in wet shoes is not fun, and while rain happens that at least is unplanned.

My son who is 17 wears Crocs - you can find them for 20-30 these days and they are somewhat closed toe. I hate them and never wear them BUT they are great for rides where you get your feet wet and rain -- I learned this many times over ? years but still wear sneakers... there is nothing worse than wet feet. So you want a TIP you can put your feet up there is a bar for that and most likely they will stay dry mine have not gotten wet in years but the real tip the heavy side almost always go down the larger drops first and that is the only chance of wet feet.... so sit smack in the middle of 5 kids and let adults fill the other side. Trade 1 (now 2) flip flops for a snack or better as that is a cheap price to pay for dry feet.
