Displaying shot glass collections?

I started a shot glass collection about 5 years ago...realizing that they were much easier souvenirs than photo frames (and cheaper!) I currently have them displayed on my window sill in the kitchen, but I'm quickly running out of room. Plus I can't tell which ones are in the back.

Here's what it currently looks like:

Is there anyone out there who's come up with a good way to display them? I found a case online for $180, which seems pretty steep to me! Any other suggestions?

My mom had hers running along the top of her kitchen on the ledge where most people display those collecter plates. LOL We had a number of those shadow boxes as well (we never bought the actual display cases because shadowboxes were cheaper).

I have mine on wall shelves in our game room. I don't think I have a picture of it here at work but i can try to remember to take a picture when i get home if you'd like

My mom had hers running along the top of her kitchen on the ledge where most people display those collecter plates. LOL We had a number of those shadow boxes as well (we never bought the actual display cases because shadowboxes were cheaper).

Shadow boxes would be neat. Thanks for the idea All my cabinets go right up to the ceiling and I'm not sure shelves in the kitchen would work...but I like the idea of the shadow boxes.

I bought my son a display case this past Christmas. It was from either Current or Colorful Images. I just googled "shot glass dispay", to see if I could find the case I bought (couldn't), but a whole bunch of places popped up. I looked at a few in the $30 to $50 range, and they seemed pretty nice.

I have a ton of shot glasses, too. My grandpa collected them from all over the world and I got them when he passed away. My mom got me this display case for Christmas, and I've got them in my kitchen:

I don't collect them to be cool. I collect them because I like it, and it is an inexpensive souvenier.

My husband built a shelf that looks more or less like the one that AshleyW posted. However mine doesn't have the vertical dividers because some of my shot glasses are the taller thin types and others are the 'regular' shorter wider ones. My case has four shelves and holds about 50 shot glasses. The only thing is I wish he had added a glass front so they wouldn't get so dusty.

How deep are the shelves? Do you know where you got them?


I just get the shelves at yard sales and thrift stores.

I have another shelf too but it isn't full yet and it looks so sad only half full so I didn't take a picture of it! LOL!

Your windows crank in, huh? I was thinking glass shelving across your windows, far enough out so the window/s can still be opened and closed, and of course set so you can actually access the operating device.

Okay, next. Again, glass shelves, but just in front of the part of the window that doesn't open. This assumes I'm 'seeing' your window correctly and some portion of it is fixed. I was thinking, glass shelving using those glass 'bricks' you sometimes see in home construction, as separators.

THEN I kept going. Clear acrylic shelving, connecting the tiers with some type of chain, hung from the beam above the window, still not blocking the portion of the window that's open. The advantage to clear acrylic is you can drill the holes yourself (I was actually thinking of suggesting doing this with glass, but realized drilling holes in glass can be pretty tough) or even getting the acrylic at a hardware store that might do the drilling for you.

Pish, I'm the coolest person around. (Please, I'm a 25 year old female, no kids, who loves anything Disney...doesn't that scream cool to you? )

The windows don't crank actually, they slide across, but the edge of the window always hits the glasses, so same problem really...need to move them anytime I open the window. Acrylic instead of glass is a good idea too, thanks!

We collect them as well, have since DH and I got together 11 years ago. I know that when DH finishes our basement (whenever that will be) he will have a bar down there and will display them down there, but until then I have no place to put them. Right now they are in a cabinet in our kitchen.

(My biggest thing is that I have a hard time putting my $1 or $2 shot glasses on something that's over $100! )
