Display backing?

I want to make some display cases for pins using shadow boxes. What fabric / backing should be used? Do you just use cork and cover it? Any type of fabric that works best? I was thinking that some fabrics don't heal very well and I'd like to use something that you could reposition pins and not leave marks.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

I am going to be using the sheets of craft foam that you can buy in sheets or in shapes. Sometimes it already has adhesive applied. I have found that it is wonderful for making pin storage boards out of, so I think it would be perfect for use in making a framed display.

I haven't gotten around to making the framed displays that I have planned in my head. So, I have no input on fabrics, but I would think that a good felt would be useful. Maggie
