need some advice i was thinking of going to disneyworld the last ten days of august 2003 for our first trip home i was wondering if the summer crowd would still there or if it started thinning out by then and what kind of weather to expect, my first instinct was to go in october but our friends where taking dont want to take their daughter out of school that long,as always thanks for yuor help:bounce:

We were just there the last week in August. We usually go on school break in February or April when it is very crowded. The crowds were definitely better in August -- although I won't say the park was empty either. There just seemed to be less wait time for the more popular attractions. We have also been in October on Columbus Day week and it was very crowded. :) :)

We have been to WDW many times during the 3rd or 4th week of August and found the crowds to be very manageable. Most schools in FL are back in session by then. The only exception seems to be the MK on most days, but especially on Saturday.

In past years the third week was ideal because MK was still open late (10:00 to midnight), but the crowds were down. This year MK has been closing earlier overall except on Friday and Saturdays, but they offer E-ticket nights if you are willing to spend the extra money. :)

The weather is HOT and humid, but it's WDW!!!

We just spent the first two weeks in August there. Usually we go the last of July and first of August but found the crowds more manageable the first two weeks of August.

Floriday schools go back the second week in August and this year I only saw one Brazilian tour group!!! In July you see hundreds!!

We are looking to go second and third week next year!!

Yes, the weather is hot, but it was hotter in Boston while we were in WDW this summer!!!

We were there Aug 14-24 and had a blast. Hot and humid, but workable. Crowds were sporadic- Fantasyland had the worst crowds. Rained every afternoon for a couple hours. Lots of poolside fun, too. We enjoyed it immensely!

We just spent 5 nights/ 6 days at WDW 8/24-8/29. This was our first summer trip. We've been in October twice and April at least three times. The crowds in April are usually horrible, but the park hours are longer everywhere so you can come and go at all hours to suit your family needs. It's a little bit harder in August to manage to do all you want with the heat, the rain, the early park closings, etc. But having said all that....we would do it again.

The crowds were manageable and if you worked your "FastPass" plan you could really have some fun. My two older girls and I rode the Rock and Roll Rollercoaster at MGM 4 times in 2 hours one afternoon and in two previous trips the crowds were so awful we had never been on it. In the MK we did Buzz Lightyear so many times I lost count. My husband and 2 year old saw Pooh 3 times in one day and Space Mountain had only a 20 minute wait. The posted wait times were generally overestimated to our advantage.

We did manage to see the one and only Spectromagic and Fireworks display between 8/24 and 8/31 on our first night. And "e nights stopped" 8/23. But we took advantage of the fact that we could eat after the parks closed or at Epcot every night without feeling like we were missing something. And after we ate dinner we went to SAB or the Yacht Club quiet pool which was open 24 hours and we swam (including my 2 year old) some nights as late as 12am!

And getting priority seating for meals and/or changing them at the last minute was soooooo much easier than on our other trips. We almost got to do the Illuminations show from a boat when someone else backed out.....but lightening ruined our plans!

In stead of the park shows (we skipped Fantasmic) we opted for Cirque du Soleil which we all loved and went to "Hoop De Do" for the 4th time and had great seats at both. So there are some distinct advantages to going in August..... you just have to be prepared for everything, use tons of sunscreen, dress sensibly and drink plenty of water! Go for it. :)

We got back last week, and found the crowds to be very manageable right up until our return home at the beginning of the Labor Day weekend. If you drink lots of water and respect the sun (sunscreen, midday breaks) you should be fine.
