I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask but, my husband just surprised us, me and four kids ages 9,7,6,2 to a week trip to DisneyWorld in Aug. 19-24. This is during our 15th year anniversary. We went there for our Honeymoon and our 1st Anniversary plus other times. He booked us to The Grand Floridian.

I know, what am I complaining about? Well, I remember it being hot and I don't want to stand on lines with 4 children. Is it crowded during this time? Is it too hot?

Help, any suggestions advice would greatly be appreciated. I have to let him know ASAP whether o not we should go.

thanks,
Pippi

We are going to WDW in August with our two boys. We went in August a few years back too. I don't remember it being any more crowded than any other time we had went. We plan on going to the parks in the morning and if it gets too hot we'll go back to the hotel pool or to one of the water parks in the afternoon. Then in the evening when it starts to cool down we will head out to the parks again. Don't let the heat get you down. Go and enjoy your family vacation!

Yes it is likely to be hot -- take along spray bottles for the kids. Take advantage of early morning hours for on-property people. Don't try to do too much in one day -- just know you can't do it all and pick out the things you're most interested in -- pace yourselves. There's lots of that type of advice in the tips and families sections. There are also likely to be afternoon thundershowers, so be prepared for those. Some of WDW is not as stroller-friendly as I'd like, but you will of course need strollers. Utilize FastPass, Baby Swap and do tons of the PhotoPass photos. You could have a lovely week just staying at the hotel. It's likely to be fairly crowded in the parks, but some schools are back in session by then, so it will be less crowded than early August.
Do a lot of research on these boards to get some things preplanned -- but always be flexible and willing to skip a lot of things as well. It will be challenging with 4 young ones, but if you're aware of how to take care of any possible contingencies, you can have a memorable vacation. Congratulations on your Anniversary!

We have been to WDW 3 times in Aug, last trip was "07, about the same dates as you are going. Yes, it's hot, Africa hot as we say here. But the way we see it, it's hot here, too, in Aug (we're 20 miles north of Boston), and where would you rather be ? We use misters, drink lots of fluids, take frequent breaks, and soak up the AC whenever we can. And the pools are awesome, especially at night ! I'd trade with you in as heartbeat !! Have a great trip !! :thumbsup2

It is pretty hot,

but the lines are not too too bad at all!!

have a awesome trip guys!!

The advice and suggestions you gave are great! We just went to Disneyland in April and I think my husband got the bug to go back but to Florida. Is it too late to do dining reservations though? Can anyone tell me what boards I should look at mostly. Now I'll be here again almost everyday!! I love my husband but now I'm going to be stressed. Though I agree, this time I'll have the kids pick their most favorite things, do those first and then whatever time we have left do other things. Being on the monorail is a great advantage since we usually stayed at the All stars or other places where we needed the bus. OK I'll have to think about this a bit more but many thanks for the advice given and any advice yet to come:)

We've gone several times in August (our anniversary too). One thing that really helped - take one of those refillable mugs from the hotel to the parks with you, and just keep filling it up at water fountains. Or take more than one since you'll have the stroller. It's a lot cheaper and takes a whole lot less time than buying water bottels. And fountains are really not hard to find. It was a life-saver! (One trip I bought one of those clips at Eastern Moutain Sports that look like a rappeling clip, and hung the mug from the belt loop on my shorts - worked like a charm!)

I am no expert since I have never been yet, but we are going for the first time the first week of August and I have gleaned so much from these boards! I already told my twins we are taking a mid-day break at the hotel each day to rest and swim, then head back to the parks for the afternoon/evening. I bought a couple of those personal fan/misters for them to use, and even ordered myself a Baggallini Messenger bag based solely on the reviews on the DIS! :goodvibes
What a fantastic surprise for you and your kids! My sister and I are taking our boys (although my two-year-old is staying home with Daddy) and we are so excited that it's getting so close after planning for over a year!
Have a wonderful time!!! :)

26 days until our first time to Florida/DisneyWorld!
Me (36), DS (7), DS (7), my sis (42), her son/my neph. (17)
