We enjoyed our last spring break trip to DW. The weather was perfect, it was not crowded at all and we had a great time. Now we are thinking about going in August, which is hot even where we are.

Any thoughts?

It will be hot. Hot. HOT. That being said, the heat can contribute to thin crowds, even during free dining times, because I think many people don't go as hard in the parks/hang at the resort/pool more during the day.

This works out for us, with younger children, as they don't want to stay late, so we can get back early, and swim before bed. We try to swim at least twice a day while there anyway, we just try and also fit a down day or two in during our August trips, where we spend a day NOT at the parks, or leave the park at noon and spend the rest of the day at the pool.

We are going Aug 25-Sept 2, POR. Have a great time!

We went in August in 2006. It was hot, but not unbearable. But I am from Florida, so I was used to the heat. We are heading back down in August again this year. Bring hats, sunscreen and misting fans. Those worked awesome and helped my daughter stay cool in 2006.

I think this summer in particular is going to be a lot hotter then normal, Florida had a very mild winter and as of today ... 6/11/12 ... we are already running in the mid 90's, 55+% Humidity and Dew points in the high 70's.

I was outside all day saturday and it was 91, 60% Humidity with a 78* Dew Point and according to my weather app the "Feels Like" temp was 102* ... but it felt worse! I was standing still ... and sweating!

May just be me but between June and early September I avoid any of the parks!

I've done WDW in August plenty of times. Bring sunscreen and enjoy those like-clockwork afternoon showers - they'll keep you cool!

We been during August three or four times, and will return August 2012. Trying to fit everyones schedules we only have a two or three week window where all four of us are free. Wife and I are more flexible than 17 and 19 year old children!

It is hot in August at Disney, but it is also hot and humid in NJ during August. Bring plenty of sun screen, expect it to rain briefly every day, drink plenty of fluids, relax and don't over do it. Crowds are a bit lighter, although the pools are crowded. Enjoy!

Late August is our preferred time to go as well. We can only go in summer or at Christmas due to schedules and late August is best for crowd levels as a lot of the U.S. schools, especially the southern ones, are back in class by then. Yes, it's hot. Yes, it will rain, but never for too long and there are lots of places to duck in out of it or do like we do and book early dinner ADRs. I can't tell you how many times we've gone in to eat and come out to a wet ground. LOL

We always go in August since my son attends an 11 month school year. It is hot and humid, but it is also hot and humid on Long Island in August! We'd rather sweat our butts off at Disney instead of our backyard or the beach. The first day is usually the worst. By the 2nd day we've adjusted. Lots of sunscreen, lots of fluids, and alternate rides with shows. If at MK and we get hot we go on IASW or to Mickey's Philharmagic. We do a few rides then hit a show again. At EPCOT, Ellen's ride provides a nice long cool down. LOL We're not the type to take afternoon breaks at the resort. We do DxDP and enjoy a quiet, cool hour for lunch to relax and rehydrate, then a 7pm or so dinner and we're ready to go for the rest of the night.

We took the kids on their first trip in Aug. It was tough, that was partly due to going commando, kids getting over being sick and the heat. I thought I wouldnt go back again in Aug, we prefer May.

But seeing that the boys are getting older and I am going to avoid taking them out of school for a long trip, next time we go to WDW, I am thinking Aug again. Last few trips we learned not to rush around and when the family said we are done, we left the park for the day. Swimming is just as fun for us. :cool1:

The thing that helped the most when we went in Aug was the crowds seemed low. I dont remember any long lines for anything, other than Peter Pans Flight.

Give it a try, dont go commando and understand what it is going to be like. Have a magical time! :wizard:

We go in august as well -- crowds are low (we have managed to do MK between 9 am and 2 pm and out and in the pool at the resort before the 3:00 Parade!

It is hot, but I lived in Brasil for 4 years -- and it was 102 on Christmas day there -- so i appreciate it ;)

We enjoyed several trips in August. Many families at preparing for back to school, or the kiddos are already in school. It worked well for us, because the crowds are smaller and it is a bit easier to get dining and room reservations. Have fun!

The end of August is when we visit annually (18-29 this year). It's pretty hot, but we've never found it unbearable. Crowds aren't bad and the afternoon TStorms are a good excuse to get out of the Parks and take a break.

I would vote NO to August mainly because I do not do well in heat, and AUGUST in Florida is worse than any kind of heat I have ever felt. The humidity is suffocating and you break out in a sweat the moment you step outside. Even at 9 in the morning.

That is not my definition of a good time. I live right on the Mississippi River so I know what humidity and heat is, but Florida is worse.

If you have never experienced Florida in August just prepare yourself mentally to be the hottest you have ever been and to be miserable. Then if it turns out it doesn't seem that bad to you, then all the better.

Personally I wouldn't go any time between May 1st and October 1st.

I would rather be cold and have to wear a hoodie or jacket then to be hot in any way what so ever.

Yes....we go every August and this year is no different (Aug.24 -Sept.3) like everyone else has stated it will be HOT,HOT,HOT but we don't mind it as we would rather sweat then freeze. I would rather be sweating in Disney then at home....:lmao:

We don't like the heat either, so August will never be an option for us (unless DH wants to go for his birthday one year, but I don't see that happening). I grew up going in August or July and the heat was miserable, so we avoid those two months now.

Some people thrive on it - they love the later hours and that all rides tend to be open. I can appreciate that, but we'll stick to October :).

We always go the last two weeks in August. The crowds are lower (as the DISer in Mississauga states) and if you plan on the afternoon showers, it is quite manageable.

It's hot in the parks, but it's hot at home too. And let's face it, it's Florida, so no matter when you're visiting you expect it to be warm. We love the early mornings and the evenings, and have learned to make the most of those mid-day breaks.

We're doing 19-24 this year. I've done summer four times but not since 2000 because going in January spoiled me. My choice was August or nothing so I choose August.

I have been in August and like everyone says .. its hot hot hot..too hot for some of the people in my group....but with scheduling August was the only time we could all go .... and will go again.. for us its .. either disney in August or no disney at all.....its the hottest month of the year there ..

I would love love to go any other times as I have friends that do .. and I am jealous of the weather experience without the heat,.. but hey .... we go when we can !

Went in late August last summer got crowds were pretty good heat wasnt too bad but I am used to it but it is hurricane season hurricane Irene was supposed to hit near WDW but luckily we only had 1 shower from it but hit my hometown pretty bad and made it so we couldnt go back for 2 more days so it extended our vacation!

We are going...the deals were hard to pass by and it is a great treat right before DS starts 1st grade. It will be hot...but just plan to take long breaks at the pool or in air conditioning. It also might not be as crowded as it can be like right now...with Star Wars weekends.
