Disney's Written Policies On Pool Hopping

I have to add my 2 cents, only because it is very frustrating when it does happen to you. There seems to be people that think rules do not apply to them. Maybe they are un aware of the rules, or do not care. I do not think Duklite is obsessed with other peoples actions, but it does not seem fair to not be able to have a seat by the pool when you are paying to stay at a certain resort. This type of thing happens in other resorts as well, not just WDW. If everyone knew the rules and stuck by them it would make for a much happier vacation for everyone. I know it happens but I really do not understand why someone would pool-hop, it has to be time consuming. I don't think anyone is "obsessed" with anyone else, I think its being shocked of other people's selfish actions and not caring about anyone else. I would never go someplace I knew I should not be, its not fair to the others who pay to be there. If you are trying to "get away with something" knowingly, that is just trashy and not fair to others.

Hi everyone..

At the risk of being excommunicated and banned from the DIS boards I am posting this =)

When staying at AKL last August... my daughter was booked on the Pirate Cruise from the grand floridian...

I had thought

"Hmmm.... 2 hours to kill at GF - whatever will I do?"

I asked AKL concierge if I could go for a swim and sit by the pool.. at GF - they said and I quote "Pool hopping is officially not permitted - but ask when you are there - I don't think it will be an problem"

But as fate would have it... I got way too much sun the day before at blizzard beach and I was laying low and keeping out of the August sun that day... I ended up going for breakfast and to the shops.

BTW - this deluxe resort has very unimpressive pools - the little one by the beach is okay... but the large central one looks like your local community pool.

Anyway... If I had have felt well that day - I would have politely asked - I don't see the harm in that - the worst they can say is no...

I am not for 'crashing' other resort pools - in fact because of this issue I am splitting my next holiday half and half with AKL and BC - just to use storm-a-long bay.

My advice is ask politely and see what happens.

>>^..^<<

We usually stay at the Polynesian in July/Aug. We are at the pool every day and yes there have been many times where it is crowded, but to tell you the truth I don't really think much about it. Maybe because we are usually swimming in the pool with our kids so it doesn't matter if we have a chair or table. Now when they can all swim on their own and I can relax on the beach then I might notice.
On a bus ride to AKL I was talking with a woman who was staying at AKL I told her that we usually stay at the Polynesian. She was asking about the pool and I told her that my kids really enjoy it. She was having breakfast at 'Ohana's and said maybe they would go for a swim afterwards to check it out. I think there are a lot of people who just don't know it's not allowed. Maybe they should post bigger signs by the pool warning those not allowed that they could be asked to leave.
My friend who usually goes with us has a cousin that lives in Orlando and he told her they will go for a swim there every once in a while.

That brings up another issue-What if you're just at the hotel and go and SIT by the pool with a drink-you're not swimming, just sitting there-Is that not okay? YOu're not really "hopping" . But you are taking someone elses chair.

Also, I think what I and other "sarcastic" posters were bugged about was the high and mighty tone of the OP. Not only in this thread, but in every other thread the OP posts too-She's always "right" -if you know what I mean.

That's a good point pnelson. I often go visit other resorts to check them out and when I do I go to the pool and get a drink by the bar:confused:
Now that I think of it we usually have lunch at the Polynesian pool a couple of times during our stay and sometimes we will bring snacks down and we always get a table when we need one. It seems like the times it doesn't matter if we need a table or not is when it's really busy so it always works out for us:) I guess I am just to busy keeping an eye on my toddler that I really don't notice who are guests and who are crashers:sunny:

I don't understand why this has been reposted. This exact issue was closed in another thread. Obviously the OP wasn't through being in a real snit about what other people do. She had to reopen the same issue, after a moderator closed that thread. Why not let Disney take care of their pools, and do the job that is their's. The pool policy is written in the paper you get when you check in..it's written on signs by every pool. If someone ask's, why not just a simple, "no it's not allowed, but exceptions have been made..ask at the pool or the resort desk." We have had company visit us, and when asked, have always been given permission for them to join us at the pools..and they aren't even staying in Disney. They may have taken your chair.

Our job is to go and have fun..not worry that someone else may get an extra perk that we didn't get.
(gosh I hope I don't have any typo's)

Edited to fix a typo

I think this is getting into what is classified as "personal attacks" on these boards.

:(

If you feel that the OP has a trend of posting in a "high and mighty" tone, just don't read her posts or respond to them. ;)

Very often, my opinions differ greatly from the OP on many subjects. And Anne and I have gone through some battles. LOL right Anne,

HOWEVER,

No one deserves to be personally attacked. We all come to these boards to share our information and help each other out.

The vagueness of Disney Policy is Disney's own fault. They don't enforce many of their written policies from swimming to smoking on non smoking savannah balconies. That is what leads to all the problems. IMHO.

Anne posted the written policy for those that may not be aware of it and had questions.

While I agree that the last thread on pool hopping should have been handled better, this thread is now doing the same thing.

I feel a moderator coming on.

Pixie dust for everyone.

Or use the "ignore" feature available here. You will never see another post by the person again.

It's kinda hard to attack someone when they are on your ignore list.

I can't believe Anne is being attacked for posting this information. I wonder if she stepped on some toes with her post.

So what if she reports someone for pool hopping. There's nothing wrong with that.

If more people would speak up about things when they happen instead of waiting until they get home to complain here, things would change.

I wonder how you would feel if you were staying at a resort and couldn't find a chair or table because others decided to try out the cool pool.

What about not getting a parking spot at your resort because people not staying there took up the parking spaces?

We all go on vacation to relax. If something happens during my trip to bother me I will speak up about then, not start a venting thread when I get home.

I know many people her disagree with many of Anne's post, but that's no reason to attack her.

Thanks for the info Anne.

I think ANY info posted about pool hopping rules is a good idea.

When I first starting planning our very our first on site WDW vacation (and was brand new to internet BBs) I asked the pool hopping question. DH and I truly thought that the resorts were "all Disney" and pool hopping was OK. In fact, I only asked when I saw a thread on another site vaguely refer to pool hopping being not allowed. Needless to say, when the correct info was posted, we realized that pool hopping is NOT allowed, and thus we haven't done it. However, I think for most people, especially Disney newbies, it is an innocent question.

Way off topic - -

There are more comments on here about the OP than there are about WDW resort pools.

The OP in no way broke any posting guidelines with this topic - I'm afraid I cannot say the same for many of you!

So once again - another thread must be closed!
